Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country Begins New Year With A Shopping Frenzy
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 • Posted October 8, 2008

Members of the FAAHC met on September 19th in The Back Room of Mason’s Willow Creek Café.

This was their first business meeting for the 2008/2009 year. It was a very active meeting with many items being discussed that will keep this group busy in the following months.

Their special guest was a very inspiring speaker, a teacher and a very talented entrepreneur from Austin. Her name is Kami. She and her family are from India and, in her home country, she was a practicing attorney. However, once they made the move to Austin, she decided to go back to school and further her education in order to teach Special Needs children. She feels like God is calling her to do this work and she displays great love for her new vocation.

As we know, teachers must often use their own money in order to do extra things for their students. Kami earns her money through the sale of beautiful items that her parents taught her how to create. She has jewelry that is made using stones that come from her father’s quarry in India. She has gorgeous jeweled and/or beaded purses and shoes. Also, offered were many different kinds of tunics that sparkled a little or a lot! FAAHC members enjoyed a very busy hour of shopping from the bounty that was offered.

Members are still hearing many compliments about the first art show which was held back in May. The Second Annual Art Show will be held in May 2009 and there will be more information after the first of the year.

However, we ask you to mark your calendars now for November 15th as the 5x7 Fall Art Show will be held on that date at the Northside Cafe. This will be open to the public at 11 a.m. and will close with the end of business that day. Only member’s art pieces that are 5x7 will be offered for sale and all funds raised will be applied to the association’s scholarship fund. More details will be shared in the next few weeks.

FYI: The next business meeting will be at 10 a.m. on October 17th in The Back Room at Mason’s Willow Creek Café. The November art show and many other business items will be discussed.
