The Punchers traveled out of town Thursday to take on the boys from Christoval. Both teams struggled in the first period, but the Punchers finally started to click in quarter two.

Mason began a drive from their own 37 yard line, then finished off the drive with a 8 yard touchdown by Rio Schmidt. The drive and score saw several great blocks from Mason linemen. Brandon McGowan and Zane Graves kicked out the end and linebacker for the score. The PAT was successful, again made by Schmidt, opening the scoring 8-0 in favor of the Punchers. Two game minutes later, Emilio Palacio took the quick-pitch from Cunningham and added on another Puncher touchdown with his 32 yard run. This gave the Punchers a 14-0 lead.

In period three Zane Graves scored on the first play of the quarter with a 22 yard run following the blocks of Eric Martinez, Zack Bjork, Forrest Lingle, and Kolby Yonker. The Punchers then stepped up their defensive play and the Christoval team found it difficult to move the ball at all. Defensive stand-outs during this period was, Jacoby Patterson, Kolby Yonker, Dale Cunningham, Rio Schmidt, and Austin Eckert.

On Mason’s final possession of the 3rd period, Cunningham put together a good mix of pass and run with receivers, Patterson, Dutton, and Graves, then tailback Rio Schmidt scored again from the Christoval 1 yard line with Graves tacking on the PAT. This took the Punchers into the final period leading 28-0.

In the final period the Puncher defensive unit dished out plenty of hits sending the Cougar running backs in the wrong direction. During the period good defensive play was seen by Emilio Palacio, John Rocha, Matt Clark, Kolton Bankston, Zane Graves and Josh Jaquez.

The Punchers scored once again on a 55 yard drive, that Cunningham finished off with the quarterback keeper. Cunningham then hit Tanner Dutton on a quick pass for the PAT finishing out the game in favor of the Punchers, 36-0.

Great overall effort by every player. The Punchers will combine 7th-8th Grade teams this coming Thursday when the Irion County team comes to visit.
