JV Stays Perfect on the Season
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 • Posted October 15, 2008

The Puncher JV improved its season record to 6-0 Thursday night in Christoval. The victory proved to be a true team effort as most everybody contributed to the 32-6 win.

The normally spectacular David Mora suffered an arm injury on the first drive of the game. His teammates responded by putting up 32 unanswered points in the first half. Ethan Hudson replaced Mora and ran for one touchdown. Dillon Estes took control at QB and helped lighten the load by throwing three touchdown passes.

Estes connected with Ben Bjork for the first score of the game and then kept it himself for the two point conversion. When the punchers got the ball back Estes found Chance Stockbridge in the flat and Stockbridge did the rest by taking it in from 55 yards out. Ben Bjork extended the lead after a long drive by running it in from 12 yards out. Austin Trip finished off the scoring when he hauled in a pass from Estes.

The 32-0 halftime score proved insurmountable for the cougar offense as they struggled to gain yards against a stingy Puncher defense. The defense also lost a key player when Ricco Sedillo went down, Sophomore LB Zach Graves rallied the troops and held on to the shut-out until the final seconds when Christoval converted on a trick play to score with 5 seconds left on the clock.

Christian Orta played well in the defensive line along with Nicolas Navarette at end. Jacob Bibb was solid as the other half of the LB duo. Paden Hemphill also added some punch filling in at safety for the injured Mora.

The JV will play next week in Winters at 5:30.
