Wednesday, October 15, 2008 • Posted October 15, 2008

There will be a special edition of the Llano Country Opry on Saturday, October 18, during the Llano River Chuck Wagon Cookoff. It will be held at the Badu Park in Llano with two show times of 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

It is a free concert and sponsored by the Llano Memorial Health Care System and the Scott and White Health Care System.

Heart of Texas Recording Artist Justin Trevino will be headlining the special opry show. He will be joined by Sammy Geistweidt, Shane Lively, Benny Fred Kothmann and special guests. Tracy Pitcox will MC the show.

Each year, a group of chuck wagon enthusiasts get together and go back in time to an era when the west was settled. Those enthusiasts use traditional cooking methods from that era, wear traditional dress and experience traditional neighborly fun as they compete for prizes in a number of categories.

Heart of Texas Recording Artists Darrell and Mona McCall will be among the judges for the annual event this year.

The public chuck wagon meal will be served from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. only and tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets for the meal are $15.00 and can be bought from the Llano Chamber of Commerce at (325) 247-5354.
