Arts Celebration Kicks Off This Weekend in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, TX — Art shows, gallery openings, artist demonstrations, open studios, an art walk and a benefit for school art programs will showcase the works of over 150 local, regional and nationally recognized artists during the eighth annual Art Past Dark celebration, a two weekend event in Fredericksburg.

The first weekend (Oct. 31 – Nov. 2) will feature eight open studios with media ranging from sculpture to painting to fused glass.

The Fredericksburg Theater Company will present Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor” on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Highlighting the first weekend will be the Art Past Dark Opening Celebration and Art Auction on Saturday evening, November 1, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Conference Center of The Hangar Hotel. Proceeds from this event will benefit art enrichment programs at public and private schools in Gillespie County.

The second weekend (Nov. 7 – 9) features the First Friday Art Walk with ten participating fine art galleries in downtown Fredericksburg. Artist demonstrations will take place at selected galleries throughout the day on Friday and Saturday.

Other highlights of the second weekend include the 10th Annual Contemporary Masters Invitational Art Show at Fredericksburg Art Gallery, the 16th Annual Die Künstler von Fredericksburg Art Show and Sale at St. Joseph’s Halle, and “The Art of Sculpture” show at Whistle Pik Galleries. Photography 414 Gallery continues an exhibit entitled “Timeless: Photographs by Imogen Cunningham, 1883 – 1976.”
