JV Punchers Victorious Against Junction
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 • Posted November 5, 2008

The Junction Eagles made the trip over on Thursday night to play against the Punchers in the last district contest for the year. The Punchers proved a formidable adversary as they closed out district competition with a 42-6 victory.

The Punchers were obviously very focused and geared up to play their rivals, and executed efficiently in every facet of the game. Offensively the Punchers racked up 339 yards of total offense, led by the rushing of Ethan Hudson and Ben Bjork. Hudson ended the game with 181 yards rushing on 22 carries and 2 scores, while Bjork ended the game with 80 yards on 6 carries and a touchdown. Dillon Estes was perfect through the air, completing all 6 of his pass attempts for 80 yards with 3 touchdown passes. Jacob Bibb snagged 2 of the touchdowns, and Bjork caught the other with a fine catch on a 44 yard completion on 3rd and long. Of course none of the yardage would have been possible without the outstanding blocking by the offensive line consisting of Briggs Jones, Korey Zavala, Brodey Taylor, Cristian Orta, and Dyllan Hofmann.

On the defensive side of the ball, Chance Stockbridge, Zach Graves, and Jacob Bibb led the charge with each securing at least 9 tackles and also combining for a sack and a caused fumble. Nicolas Navarette and Dyllan Hofmann got into the action by contributing with sacks on the quarterback. Hofmann and teammate Jake Newsom also recovered a fumble a piece to set up big Puncher drives. The secondary of Austin Trip, Winston Trip, Chance Stockbridge, Andy Duarte, Jake Newsom, and Paden Hemphill also offered great run support while maintaining pass coverage and holding the Eagle receivers in check. All of these athletes were allowed to make plays thanks to the great effort from the defensive line consisting of combinations of Cristian Orta, Albino Cedillo, Dyllan Hofmann, Michael Williams, Ethan Hudson, Nicolas Navarette, Brodey Taylor, Ben Bjork, and Tyler Chew.

The Punchers will travel to Early this Thursday to take on the 9th grade Longhorns at 5:00. We look forward to seeing a strong crowd of Puncher faithful at the game and ending our season with a victory.
