Punchers 25th in the State
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 • Posted November 5, 2008

By defeating the Eagles of Junction last week, our Punchers secured a berth in the State Playoffs and put themselves in a position to capture the District 29 Championship. The Punchers' title hopes will hinge on the Junction vs Menard game Friday night. If Junction defeats Menard we will win the District outright. The upset of Junction also vaulted our Punchers into the top 25 state rankings where they are currently ranked as the 25th best team in the State. Junction and Menard, who were both in the top 25 last week, are no longer state ranked.

The win at Junction last week got statewide attention and served notice to all that we are a team to be reckoned with. Coach Joy and his staff seemed to have an answer for everything that Junction threw at them. The defense held the district's leading rusher, Dustin Stapp, to only 93 yards on 27 carries. On Offense, Coach Joy caught everybody by surprise by rolling out a new offensive package that resembled a battering ram, as Jared Hudson and Adam Timms ran wild behind some of the best downfield blocking that we have seen all year. This victory was the quintessential team effort with every player understanding his assignment and fulfilling his role. When you start to see players give themselves up for the good of the team as you did over and over again on Friday, you become acutely aware that the 2008 Punchers posess a team chemistry that could very well take them deep into the playoffs, and dare I say, State Championship.

Kudos must go out to the Mason Faithful who showed up in mass for the Junction game. The bleachers were completly packed and our fan base was standing three deep along the fence line. The support and enthusiasm displayed by our community played a huge part in setting the tone as they out right willed our Punchers to victory. It was one of those evenings where it was pretty cool to be from Mason!

The Punchers will be off this week as District 29 wraps up regular season play. It is still unclear as to who our playoff opponent will be, however, next week I will have a complete rundown as to who our opponent is, and the game location, etc......It’s playoff time in Texas and our Punchers are taking us to the BIG DANCE !!!!!
