The Mason FFA Ag. Issues Team will be competing at the Area VII FFA Association Leadership Development Events on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, in Blanco, Texas. Members of the team are Tabitha Zant, Virginia Lemke, Kambrey Hudson, Shaye Shults, and Garrett Allen.
The Ag Issues competition requires FFA members to research a current topic concerning agriculture. This year’s team has chosen the topic of the Cactoblastis Cactorum, more commonly known as the Cactus Moth. This moth is known to completely consume prickly pear and is migrating toward Texas from Florida. The main question this team has to answer is “,which side of the line will you stand on?” Should we allow the cactus moth to enter the borders of Texas or should we prevent the introduction of the moth into Texas all together?
These students are currently discussing the pros and cons of the subject to various community groups. Also, the group has designed a blog site on the internet for all those interested in this moth. Their site can be reached by visiting http://www.cactusmothmasonffa.blogspot.com/
Any and all comments are welcomed by the team to assist with collecting data for their presentation. For more information contact Lance Rasch or Jarrod Usener at 325-347-1122.
