AROUND THE SQUARE
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 • Posted November 19, 2008

Square.

What a word.

From Vulgar Latin exquadra (how vulgar indeed).

According to trusty Webster.

Evolving to Old French esquarre.

Four square.

What a game.

The square.

What a place.

Not every town has one.

Now we have Square Plate.

The new café in town.

On the square.

You can get a square meal there.

And they actually serve the food on square plates.

Bratwurst, schnitzel, kraut, cabbage.

Sandwiches, salads.

Bread pudding and brownies.

Cheesecake and tarts.

And cakes and pies.

Oh my.

They join four other eateries on the square.

Coffee Mug N’More.

Willow Creek Café.

Santos Taqueria.

And The Cat’s Meow.

Which, by the way, will prepare special suppers to take home.

So go ahead.

Have that dinner party for eight (or six or ten or whatever).

Just call Cathy at The Cat’s Meow.

She’ll get you squared away.

Square.

Amazing we can go a-round one.

Square dancers go round and round.

Circle left, circle right.

Dosado.

You can bet a square shooter is on the square.

He’ll look a fella square in the eye.

Ready to square off for another round.

Or go back to square one.

And don’t forget.

Be there.

Or be square.

That’s Mason.

Renee Walker is an author, poet, and real estate broker on the square.
