Juanita Flores, of Mason, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the age of 76. Juanita was born December 8, 1932, in Austin, Texas, to Juan and Josephine Rodriguez. She was one of 13 children.
She married Juan Flores on April 4, 1969, in Plains, Texas, and they lived there until moving to Mason in September 1982. She and Juan raised 15 children, including three grandchildren. She was the best mother in the world. She loved everyone. She was active in church activities, enjoyed quilting and sewing and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going to the river and playing with the kids. She loved to travel and enjoyed getting out of the house. She enjoyed yard sales and flea markets and could always spot a bargain. Juanita was a great cook but enjoyed eating out while traveling.
Juanita is survived by six daughters: Mary and Odi Ortiz , Josie and Jamie Martinez and Seante Flores, all of Mason, Janie and Jesus Munoz of Ohio, Juanita and Michael DeFay of Michigan and Rita and Joe Diaz of Plains; and nine sons: Billy Longoria of Mason, Chris Rodriguez of Mason, Gilbert and Martha Longoria of Dallas, Larry and Debbie Longoria of Plains, Lee Roy and Sulema Longoria of Brady, Margarito and Annette Longoria of Brady, Jimmy and Linda Longoria of Plains, Benito and Martha Longoria of Brownfield and Pete and Janie Flores of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by four brothers: Eugene Rodriguez of Michigan, Larzaro Rodriguez of Lubbock, Leonardo Rodriguez of Brownfield and Joe Rodriguez of San Angelo; and three sisters: Margie Germaldo of Brownfield, Dominga Alvarado of Brownfield and Ernestina Sotello of San Antonio. Additionally, Juanita is survived by 55 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 43 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Josephine Rodriguez, by one son, Miguel Garcia and, on September 21, 2008, by her husband, Juan Flores.
Funeral services for Juanita Flores were held on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Mason. Interment followed in the Crosby Cemetery. A prayer service was held on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.
