Deadline Friday, Dec. 19th For E.M.S. Fundraiser!

By Judy H. Uherek

This Friday, December 19th, is the deadline for making your donation to the annual Mason County E.M.S. fundraiser, called “Operation Christmas Greeting”. A full-page “Community Greeting Card”, with an alphabetical listing of all contributors, will be in this paper’s Christmas edition on December 24th.

The “Greeting’s” goal each year is to provide funds for needed equipment for our local E.M.S.. Mason has a small staff and providing equipment that can better help them in their work to save lives is the reason this fundraiser exists. This year’s goal is to fund stair chairs. Instead of bouncing the patient down stairs or inclines, the chair has handles in the front and the back for the workers to hold and guide plus a track that glides or slides the chair down in greater safety. This removes any jarring motions to the patient. The price for each is $2,300.00.

If you have not yet made your donation, please, fill out a coupon (use the one below or pick one up at your bank), printing your listing(s) exactly as you wish it to appear on the “Greeting”. Deposit your check (made payable to “Operation Christmas Greeting” and marked “Donation-EMS”) with your coupon attached, at any of Mason’s three banks. You may also mail it to one of the banks. Address your envelope to: “Operation Christmas Greeting”, the name of the bank you are using and Mason, TX 76856. (First State Bank, Mason National Bank or The Commercial Bank.)

As this is written, the photo that was promised has had to be canceled. However, the following is some of the equipment that your donations have helped to purchase in the past: training mannequins, training equipment, blood pressure monitors, Lif-Pak 12 cardiac monitors and defibrillators, electric stretchers and GPS locators. The goal is to keep three ambulances fully equipped.

Residents do not need to be reminded that Mason is a rural area as far as distance to medical facilities is concerned and the EMS is “the first on the scene” in life-threatening situations. Your support is needed to help Mason County have the best EMS possible. In addition, you will be saying “Merry Christmas” to many people. The deadline is at hand and we ask for your support. Thank you!
