Each year year I look at the schedule and try to gauge the difficulty. Picking out the tough games is a no brainer. It is the sleeper games that always intrigue me. Those teams that you should probably beat, but scare you a bit. In my opinion this year's sleeper game is San Saba and I will give you five reasons why.
1.) The slight tremor that you will feel when the Dillos hit the field are two of the best linemen that you will see all year. All-West Texas lineman, Tyler Mcintosh ( 6’0" 275lbs ) and his side kick All-District lineman, Anthony Salinas (5’11"” 240lbs)
2.) After several sub-par years the Dillos have hired a new head coach, which means you will see new defensive and offensive schemes.
3) The Dillos have moved All-District QB, Jack Whitten to the backfield and have turned over the reigns to a gunslinger by the name of Holden Pannell.
4.) San Saba is playing 2A football with almost 1A numbers, which simply makes you tougher over the long haul.
5.) I have a hunch the Dillos are going to be sky high for this game! Point five is something we will need to get used to. The fact that we are now one of the hot programs in the State, also means that we have painted a bulls eye on our back. Playing the Punchers will now be the biggest game of the year for all of our opponents.
San Saba stadium which is band box by design is a great venue to watch a game. The bleachers are so close to the field you may be tempted to put on a helmet. Our Punchers are coming off a thrilling victory against Iraan and I highly urge you make the drive. It is anybody’s guess what the Dillos have in store for us, (Spread? Winged -T? Wildcat?) But what I do know is this, these are not the same old Dillos and we need to be wary of.......... THE SLEEPER GAME !!!!
