The Hilda United Methodist Church is happy to welcome our new pastor, Rev. Malford (Mal) Heieholzer and his wife Carolyn who come to us from Canyon Lake. Rev. Hierholzer’s first service will be this Sunday, June 8th at 11:00 a.m.

Dr. Malford Hierholzer (Pastor Mal) was born in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up in El Campo, Texas, Brownsville, Texas, and graduated from Seguin High School in Seguin, Texas. His father and grandfather were also United Methodist ministers.

Pastor Mal has a B.S. degree in Education from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, a Masters in Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas, Texas, and an Honorary Doctor's degree from Southwestern University.

He has served on boards at Southwestern University, Waco's Methodist Children's Home, and the Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio. As a member of the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, he has served on the Board of Ordained Ministries, on the Commission on Religion and Race, and on the Austin District Cabinet of six years as District Superintendent over 67 churches.

During 49 years of ministry, he has served the following churches in Texas:

Minerva, Salem, Tracy (4 point circuit) in Central Texas

Paint Rock, Millersview, Eola (3 point circuit)

Woodsboro UMC, Woodsboro

Trinity UMC, Corpus Christi

First UMC, Fredericksburg

First UMC, Lockhart

St. Matthews UMC, San Antonio

St. John's UMC, Austin

Travis Park UMC, San Antonio

Canyon Lake UMC, Canyon Lake

In retirement Mal has served Nixon UMC, Canyon Lake UMC as Associate Pastor, and began a new UMC on the North side, North Shore UMC.

Pastor Mal has been married to his wife Carolyn for 49 years, and they have two sons: Rob Hierholzer and his family of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and John Hierholzer and family of San Antonio. They have four grandchildren.

Mal enjoys golf, SMU football, watching other sports, hiking, reading, working in the yard, his dog Chyna Bell, and being a "Grandpa."

Pastor Mal says, "I enjoy a positive, passionate sharing of Christ's love with all people and being a pastoral presence to people in times of personal crisis."

We welcome all visitors to our church services. Sunday School for both children and adults begins at 10:00 a.m. and our church service begins at 11:00 a.m.
