June.

From Old French to Latin.

“Mensis Junius.”

Which means “the month of Juno.”

According to trusty Webster.

June.

Such a lovely word.

Lovely enough to be a girl’s name.

Not many months can own up to that.

Let’s see.

There’s April.

And May.

And June.

That’s pretty much it.

Augusta is a close runner-up.

And I once heard of a man named January.

But there’s just something about the name “June.”

You can trust it.

Like a chopping block that takes the whack of the ax.

And doesn’t flinch.

June.

Reliable.

Solid and straightforward.

Like June Cleaver.

Leave it to Mrs. Cleaver to know how to handle the Beaver.

Sweet and natural.

June.

Clear sky, full moon, June.

June bug.

June bride.

Juno, in Roman mythology, was the goddess of marriage.

You can find June wedding gifts at Market Square or Benjie’s or Willows or Whipperwheel or The Thing Is.

June.

Some will remember the actress, June Allyson.

Perky and wholesome.

Kinda like the month itself.

Half Spring/half Summer.

The best of both worlds.

Yin and yang.

Cool and warm.

Full of promise.

Full of plans.

That’s June.

That’s Mason.

Renee Walker is an author, poet, and real estate broker on the square.
