Thanks to the generous donation of Brent and Monica Hinckley, the Mason Ministerial Alliance will have the use of their premises located at 324 Fort McKavitt for the operation of the Mason Food Bank. The new location is next to the Community Thrift Store.Beginning Monday February 13, 2012 the Mason Food Bank will distribute food from 3:00 to 5:30 PM at this new location. And on the following months of the year food will continue to be distributed on the second Monday of each month at the same time.A large group of wonderful energetic volunteers appeared with their pickups early Tuesday morning the 24th of January and moved all the food and supplies to the new location. David Vater oversaw the moving of all the shelves to the new location which was quite a feat. He and his drill happy crew disassembled and reassembled several shelves that did not want to fit thru the existing doors.Several weeks before some of the strong and now famous high school football players, along with a group from the Mason Community Kitchen headed by Scott Zesch, moved freezers to the new location. The football players came over on their lunch break! And even before that time Brent Hinckley and his family moved all the items they had stored in this space to another location and Monica Hinckley being the great electrician that she is wired the rooms for all the freezers. So it has truly been a community effort of love to get the job done. Also, appreciated donations of food came in during the holiday season. For example, Ann Lehmberg’s elementary school class collected boxes of food as a project for giving to others at Christmas time.It is times like this that makes you realize what a blessing it is to live in this caring community of Mason Texas. If you need any further information or would like to be added to the volunteer list or donate food please contact Sue Pledger 347-6303 or Eva Tannehill 347-1518.
