As a big surprise and the grade finale at the Puncher College Week pep rally, ASU Recruiter Jonathan McKissack presented t-shirts to seniors who have applied and been accepted to Angelo State University. In addition, David, Pascual, Tyler and Conner all learned they are recipients of the Carr Scholarships.

DVDs have become our number one checkout, and I’m delighted that so many patrons are taking advantage of this FREE service! However, almost all of the DVDs and CD books (some have as many as 15 discs) come back needing to be cleaned, repaired, or even replaced. Our disc repair machine is running all through the day almost every day, and the supplies are expensive.

Some of you may have memories long enough to recall when I wrote a column a while back complaining about the issue of what the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, & Really Stupid Rules defines as ‘Short Barrelled Rifles.’ Any rifle with a barrel shorter than sixteen inches falls into this category.

Meet Scout! He is one fantastic dog. No doubt about that. Scout is a 1-1/2 year old Red Heeler Mix who is an absolute sweetheart. He was found in the country in very poor condition. The poor guy had not seen a decent meal in quite some time. A loving family with 3 young children took him in until Second Chance could get him into our Foster Care Program.

The Punchers opened district play against the Junction Eagles last Friday night. After a hard fought game, the Punchers were on the losing end 38-28. The Punchers played very good defense holding the Eagles to just 38 points. However the Puncher offense could not get rolling as they only scored 28.

The JV boys basketball team improved to 2-0 with a win over the Junction Eagles last Friday night. They played really hard from the beginning and had control for most of the game. The Punchers did hit a slow spot late in the 4th as the Eagles rallied to within 4 points.

Democrats from 19 West Texas counties will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday in the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, 1 Love St., to brainstorm about building the party and winning in 2016. Moderating the discussion will be Perry Flippin of San Angelo, committeeman for the 28th Senatorial District. The meeting is open to the public without charge.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, January 13th, for its regular weekly meeting. There were 31 members and two visitors in attendance. Lion Mark Kirby was responsible for the program and introduced Lance Rasch, the Ag Instructor at Mason High School, who spoke about the local stock show. There were 74 participants and the premium auction brought in around $148,000 that went back to the participants.

“The sun will come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar.” However, last week the sun didn’t want to come out tomorrow or the next day, either. And, I sure didn’t want to bet my bottom dollar! Then it’s January and it’s suppose to be COLD! Too, the sock show weather is always cold.

Continue to pray for John Jordan. He did well during the surgery and things look better. He was having an MRI on Monday. The family is together to run the business. Pray!
