In January, 1999, with the encouragement and advice of the late Dr. Jackie Hunt, St. Paul Lutheran Wellness Exercise Class was organized. This is the project of the St. Paul Lutheran Parish Nurse. At middle age, there is the beginning of Sarcopenia (muscle loss) and Osteoporosis (bone loss). Each condition may be slowed by exercise and better nutrition. Every year, countless children are abused and neglected by the ones they love and trust. It’s time for each of us to speak up for these children so that they may live safe, happy lives. Last year, 156 Texas children died from abuse and neglect. That means an innocent life was taken every 60 hours.

The public is invited to join new Habitat partner family Stephanie Sparks and her three children in the dedication of the twelfth home built by Mason County Habitat for Humanity. The dedication will begin at 2PM at the new home located at 1315 Morrow St. Construction of the home began on February 4th with the arrival of the first group of Care-A-Vanners and finishing touches are now being completed. This year’s home is a first for Habitat in that it is totally solar powered.

My niece shared this recipe with me, and we have found it to be really great. The original recipe calls for just pears, and for walnuts instead of pecans. I “Texized” it a bit, by adding apples and substituting pecans! This is one of those baked goods that can bake too fast if you’re not vigilant.

When Europe adopted the Gregorian Christian calendar in 1582, New Year’s Day was moved from April 1 to January 1, which, as you can imagine, caused a lot of computer billing errors. After that, anyone who still celebrated the new year on April 1 was mocked, ridiculed, made fun of, and generally debased to the point they pretty much had to just quit.

Last Friday, there was a balloon release up at the Mason Elementary School. The groups participating were: Bluebonnet CASA, Mason County Child Welfare Board and the Hill Country Children Advocate Center. Balloons were released at 10:00 a.m. They released 43 blue balloons for the children they have in care at Bluebonnet CASA and 156 white balloons for the number of child fatalities due to child abuse or neglect in the state of Texas this year.

Stop and reflect on the multitude of ways you use water every day – drinking, cooking, washing, providing water for pets and livestock, watering the lawn, garden or crops. The list goes on and on. Even in the drought conditions we’re experiencing in this area, we are still blessed that the water we use for daily living is clean and available when we turn on the nearest faucet.

Varsity Boys and JV Boys Win District Track Meet The boys track team performed very well and won the overall meet. The top 4 in the Varsity will be advancing to the Area Meet on April 10th in Harper. There was a big crowd of purple in the stands supporting our Punchers and Cowgirls and we appreciate that very much.

When the moon hits your eye like a bit pizza pie! That’s amore!!! Every time I hear these words sung by Dean Martin, it reminds me of our time spent on the East coast in New Jersey. We lived in the tiny town of Fanwood, New Jersey, the train station was just a block from our house and the bus to New York City stopped on the corner of our street.

The Mason County Cancer Benefit is just around the corner on Saturday April 26th from 11 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., ending with a memory bag ceremony. These memory bags can be purchased for $5 at Grosse and Sons, the Script Shoppe, or by any of the Cancer benefit teams fundraisers.
