The Mason Puncher Boys track team competed at the State Meet in Austin two weeks ago in the 2013 State Track and Field Meet. The Punchers qualified a 300hurdler, 4x200 Relay, and the 4x400. The Republican Women of Mason County honored their 2013 scholarship winners , Kenneth (KC) Coleman and Austin Priess at their bi-monthly meeting held on Wednesday May 15th at the Mason County Library. KC is graduating from Grace Christian School and will be attending Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the fall and Austin ,who is home-schooled will be attending Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas.

The Heart of Texas Records Music Series will continue on Saturday, May 25, with an afternoon concert and an evening dance featuring Landon Dodd and the Dance Hall Drifters with special guest Georgette Jones. The event will be held at the Heart of Texas Events Center at 804 San Angelo Highway in Brady.

Second Chance – Mason Animal Rescue’s pet of the week this week is Gwen. This sweet girl is young, around 1 – 2 years old. Gwen is a Border Collie blend. She was found wandering out by the river and was brought in to the pound.  No one has come to claim her and she is now available for adoption. Gwen gets along fine with other dogs.

On Monday May 13th, members of the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country met at the ranch home of Raymond and Judy Uherek to celebrate the end of the association’s year with a pot luck dinner. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather that evening. Dinner tables on the Uherek’s patio gave members miles of unbroken views of Texas Hill Country .

Summer is almost here and Mason ISD will once again offer breakfast and lunch to any child 18 years or younger starting on June 3. We will serve Monday thru Thursday all month. This is free to any child who would like to eat in the cafeteria. Breakfast service will be from 7:15 to 7:50 a.m.

The Jr. High Cowgirls and Punchers competed in the Sonora Invitational last Monday and had a rain out in Llano on Thursday. The Purple team participated in Sonora and the Cowgirls took 3rd place honors. Kym Danz was 4th individual and Margaret Graves placed 3rd. Due to sharing with little league baseball, the Punchers did not have enough players to field a team but Ty Ellebracht , Leonel Blas and Chase Pawvlik did a good job.

Everyone’s invited to attend the Memorial Day Salute at the Veterans Memorial on Monday, May 27th at 11:00 am. I must say this is my favorite Mason County Personality. Why would I choose one over many others? You see I live with him and he has captured my heart with his winning ways. It’s not hard to play favorite with one who always has the coffee brewed and waiting when you choose to arise from the bed.
