The City of Mason Used Tire Clean-Up is scheduled for September 29th –October 3rd from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and October 4th from 8:00 a.m. until noon. The tire cleanup will be held at the City of Mason Recycle Center located at 510 North Avenue F. The cost per regular vehicle sized tires and smaller tires will be $2 per tire.

Mary Lou (Miss Lou) Lange was honored with a party recently by her friend/caregiver, Yolanda Garza Hernandez. Friends gathered to celebrate and to wish Miss Lou a happy 87th birthday. Miss Lou enjoyed herself immensely and appreciated all who came to her party.

Raylee Keyser of Brady, Texas is excited to announce the arrival of her new baby brother, Rhett Haden Keyser, born at 8:48 a.m. on September 8, 2014, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Rhett weighed in at nine pounds, two ounces and was 20.5 inches in length. Parents are Haden and Kim Keyser of Brady, TX; grandparents are Joyce Keyser of Mason, TX, and Linda & Bob Bleau of Hatboro, PA.

The October meeting of the Hill Country CattleWomen will be hosted by the Kerrville and Mountain Home Members. The meeting will be held on October 21, 2014, at Buzzie’s BBQ located at 213 Schreiner St., Kerrville. Social Hour will begin at 10:00 a.m. the meeting to follow at 10:30 a.m.

The Grange is proud to support The Dictionary Project through its Words for Thirds program. Through tireless efforts of the Grange’s network of more than 200,000 volunteers, America’s oldest rural and agriculture organization has presented third grade students across the nation with more than 100,000 dictionaries. These dictionaries are compliments of Leon Valley Grange, an Agricultural-based Community Service organization, promoting education of youth in Texas.

This coming Saturday, Sept 27, 2014, at 8am, The 8th Annual Gem of the Hill County 5k/10k run will that place. All runners, joggers and walkers are invited to come out and support the Mason Lions club by participating in the run and walk. The Mason Garden Club will once again be having a booth at the Old Yeller Days celebration on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. The club will be selling plants both that they have grown and those purchased commercially. This year they will have bluebonnet seed for sale, also.

The Cowgirls and Punchers ran extremely well again this week at the Miles Bulldog Invitational meet. The varsity girls team won the meet with 29 points, while the closest contender, Miles, had a total of 93 points. The high school cross country kids will be competing in the Gem of the Hill Country 5K/10K this coming weekend.

Two students, Bridgit Herrington and Evelia Lopez, from St. Joseph Parish, Mason, received the Sacrament of Confirmation on September 13. After attending summer classes to prepare to be fully initatied into the Catholic Church, they joined students from Holy Cross Parish in Bertram and Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in Burnet.

7th grade The pouring down rain and muddy conditions didn’t stop the 7th grade as they piled up another victory. Our offenses and defenses played extremely well, scoring steadily throughout the game and holding the Eagles to a score late in the game. Scoring four times with the two-point conversions good on all four touchdowns, the 7th grade walked away with a 32-8 win. This is RANGER with his foster kitten CORNELIA MARI! Ranger was adopted from Second Chance over a year ago, and now lives in Fredericksburg. He and his mom hugely support Second Chance and the Mason community by fostering dogs and cats that we rescue. Because of fosters like Ranger and his mom we have saved over 200 dogs and over 120 cats!

Joey Avalos is a 9 year old boy who suffers from Autism, ADD, ADHD, Anxiety, Insomnia and has a rare Chromosome Deletion. He is currently undergoing medical treatment and visiting many specialists to determine if he has other medical diagnosises. While he appears to be a healthy boy, he has something going on that doctors can not yet diagnose.

I live in the sleepy little hamlet of Katemcy, far on the northern county line. You can get to my house by taking Katemcy Road from either RR 1222 or Highway 87. I usually use the Highway 87 route when I have to go to Brady, while the 1222 route is the normal way out.

We all have a favorite dove hunting story. Well, except for people who don’t hunt doves, I guess. But people who don’t hunt doves are not to be trusted. They’re like people who wear polyester pants. I realize they exist, but I’d rather not have anything to do with them, thanks all the same. My personal favorite dove hunting story is the one about the guy who was out hunting, sitting under a shadetree with several birds in a game bag, when a game warden showed up.
