The Area Agency on Aging of the Concho Valley strives to provide information, assistance, and services to the older citizens of Menard County. AAA staff will be presenting over You Gave, Now Save services and will be available to help seniors on an individual basis on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 12:30 p.m.

Students achieving the Dean’s List for the 2013 spring semester have been announced by Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. M-44 training and testing to add the M-44 category to your pesticide applicator license: TDA’s Predator Management Training Program works closely with the Texas AgriLife Extension’s Wildlife Services to help Texans in the livestock industry find the most appropriate control method. The program works to ensure the methods used to manage livestock predation are not hazardous to humans, non-target animals and the environment.

The Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country conducted the first of two workshops in preparing and designing chairs for their upcoming Chair-ity auction. When I was young many years ago (ok, many, many years ago), my brothers always had motorcycles, rode motorcycles, and worked on and repaired motorcycles. These were not just any motorcycles, they were Harleys. All of these motorcycles were like members of the family and each carried a name with pride.

When push came to shove during the Great Depression, the masses were unable to shove back. Instead, they relied on creativity to “make do.” Thanks to patterned sacks containing livestock feed—as well as kitchen flour—many wardrobes depended greatly on foot-powered Singer sewing machines. Mostly, women turned out the “make do” garments willingly worn by adults and children alike. There were shirts and dresses—and other garments—including underclothing.

Friday morning, the land phone went dead! Can you imagine this? I really made an effort to keep my cool, but Z didn’t take any chances, he left the house as soon as possible! I was put on hold with the company for two hours, this means using my cell air time!

According to the Associated Press, who I don’t, personally, associate with, a fellow in Klamath Falls, Oregon heard some barking outside his house shortly after he let his dogs out recently. Which was not unusual. But he also heard a roar, so he grabbed a rifle and ran to his door. Sure enough, there was a roar out there, and it was coming from a bear.
