On Tuesday, April 29, at 6:30 P.M., the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will host speaker Dr. Kevin Manning at the Odeon Theater. Dr. Manning will present his program, Curiosity: The Mission to Mars and the Deep-Space Search for Another Earth. After the indoor program, weather permitting, he will set up his telescope outside for viewing the moon and various stars and planets.

Felix Alvin Haler Jr., of Midland, Texas, died April 2, 2014, at his residence. He was born July 23, 1923, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to parents Felix Alvin Sr. and Blanch Della (Ledbetter) Haler, they preceded him in death. Felix was a retired Railroad Yard Master for the Frisco Railroad for 30 years.

It is finally turning Spring, and that means it is time for the Kimble County Gun & Knife Show and Flea Market. This year show will be held on April 26th and 27th, in the Coke Stevenson Center Hwy-83-377 one mile north of Junction, Texas. Doors will open at 9:00 to 6:00 Saturday and 9:00 to 3:00 on Sunday.

The Mason Elementary Leaders at Work raised $654 in their recent “Coins for a Cure” drive. They proudly presented it to Connie Witt as a donation to the Mason County Cancer Benefit that is coming up this weekend. The students were excited that they were able to create this “win - win” for themselves and the community!

Mason Bank donated a new volleyball net for the Comanche Creek Park recently, and representatives of the bank met with City staff to take a look at the new installation. From left to right: Jacob Hernandez, Pete Munoz, Irene Martinez, John Palacio, Connie Stockbridge, Joe Martinez, Belinda Gainer. The bank had donated the first net for the court six years ago, and once again selected a durable net that should again last for a number of years.

Ole' Yellow Animal Rescue is sponsoring a rabies clinic on Saturday, May 3rd from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Fort Mason Park Community Building. All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier. Forms to pre-register your animal are available at the City of Mason office., in front of Script Shoppe Pharmacy, or at Mane Attraction.

Grace Christian School hosted the Hill Country Meet on April 9th. One hundred eighty-seven students from surrounding area participated in art, public speaking, academic bowl, track, basketball shoot-off, obstacle course, and writing events. Covenant Academy of Kerrville took home the trophy for most team points followed by Llano Christian academy in second place.
