The Golf Tournament has been canceled due to rain. It will be rescheduled at a later date. The Mason Puncher Club is holding its 13th Annual Golf Tournament Saturday, May 16th at the Mason Golf Course. The tournament will be a 4 person 18 hole scramble with 1 mulligan and bonus string.

The Mason Garden Club met Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the Stribling Room of the Mason County Library. Pest Management was the topic of the program. Jeff Durst, owner of The Green House in Mason, gave the presentation on different organic methods for pest control in the garden. There were 13 members present.

Margaret D. Brown of Hilda passed away on July 20, 2015, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 79. Margaret was born to Daisy Durham on September 19, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas. Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Franklin Brown, on December 26, 1953. After retiring as an executive secretary from Southwestern Bell, Margaret retired with Frank to the Hill Country.

Wilma June Martin was born in Mason County, Texas, on September 19, 1924, to Ollie Dan and Lucy Prudence Polk Martin. She died suddenly in her home at Pipe Creek in the early morning hours of July 21, 2015, two months short of her 91st birthday. Services were held at the Mason Funeral Home in Mason Texas, with burial in plot near her parents’ graves in the Gooch Cemetery.

Faith Ingracia, the feature twirler for the puncher band, participated in the National Baton Twirling Competition held at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. She placed third in Flag Baton, third in Twirling Two Batons, tenth in X-Strut, tenth in Solo, and twenty first out of fifty in Twirling Three baton.

Gold and Platinum award-winning songwriter from Nashville and Texas, Tony Ramey will perform at the Odeon theater in Mason to support his recent CD release duet with the legendary Willie Nelson. Ramey will be appearing with his band Saturday August 15 at 7:00PM. Tony actually began writing at the young age of seven.

Summer is quickly coming to an end and the start of school is nearing! With that comes summer band practice. Practice schedule is very similar to last year’s and hasn’t changed from the papers that were sent home at the end of last school year. But just in case anyone has lost or forgotten, the schedule is below. Please remember to wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes.

Mason Cowgirl Basketball Camp will begin Monday, Aug. 3 and run through Thursday, Aug. 6. The camp is for all girls that will be entering 3rd through 9th grade for the upcoming school year. The cost will be $50 per child. It will start at 1pm each day and end at 4pm.

The 2015 Dr Pepper/Babolat Open Tennis Tournament was another huge success this year as it attracted players from as far as Venezuela. Many local juniors and adults competed in this year’s tournament and fared very well. As always, the Mason Tennis Association thanks the Mason Bottling Company for its continued support with the awards and concessions as well as Babolat Tennis for donation of the tennis balls for the tournament.

Fredericksburg’s “Summer of Fun” continues with another weekend of live pari-mutuel horse racing set on Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9 at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m. both days. Admission to the races is $7 for adults, $3 for children six to 15 years of age and free for children five and under.
