I'm not known for long term commitments. The longest I have been in a relationship is nine and a half years. The longest I've had a dog is seven and a half years. And, prior to this job, the longest I stayed with one profession was ten years. On September 1st, I will begin my 14th year with the Mason County News.

The year’s first meeting of the Menard/Kimble/Mason Retired Teachers for the 2014-2015 year will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Menard County Library. The meeting begins at 11:00; lunch will be served ($6.00). Annual yearbooks will be distributed at the meeting. All TRTA members are encouraged to attend. The Mason County Ministerial Alliance is moving their traditional fifth Sunday worship service to the fourth Sunday of September, due to the Labor Day weekend. The service will be held at First Baptist Church on Sunday, September 28th at 5 p.m. Hot dogs will be served on the lawn of the church followed by an indoor service of music.

Debbie Armstrong’s gorgeous Lotería quilt will be on display in the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library for the next two months. This amazing quilt was created around 2002-203 and took about a year to complete. Debbie’s inspiration came from a shower curtain that she purchased that had the images of Mexican Lotería cards.

The Pontotoc Community hosted an Ice Cream Social on August 19th honoring their Postmaster, Carma Halfmann, who is retiring at the end of August 2014. She will be the last Postmaster of Pontotoc, TX. Youth Art Camp Summer 2014 ended with a community project. Conley Brownds acted as representative of the youth and assisted Bridget Langdale to distribute fourteen FLOWERS IN A BOX. Each vase of flowers were delivered to surprised, delighted and appreciative receivers. Special thanks to Yolanda Garza who introduced us to residences where Lou Lange lives.

Central Texas Private Property Rights Coalition an organization founded to help rural property owners in the Central Texas area protect their property rights. Their purpose is keep rural property owners informed of local, state and national issues that could affect their property rights. SAMMY – 4-5 Month Old Lynx Point Siamese Kitten Sammy is one easy going kitty! He enjoys play time but he also enjoys just hanging out in whatever room you are in. Sammy doesn’t mind being held, and can turn into quite the purring machine, but he doesn’t necessarily require your undivided attention like some kittens do!

The cookbook, Nonnie’s Kitchen, My Favorite Comfort Foods”, will be available to the public on Friday, August 29, at 1PM in the Mason County Library. The recipes in the cookbook are those from the cooking series held at the Library last Spring. The Mason Garden Club met Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Mason County Library Stribling Room. This was the annual membership drive meeting with installation of new officers. Seventeen members were present including three joining the Mason Garden Club during the meeting. New officers installed were Penny Peterson as Secretary and Wendy Hastings as Treasurer.
