Around Christmas time 1974, Bob Parvin came to Mason to write a feature article on the Seaquist House for the Texas Highways, and several local people posed for the photo shoot. This scene shows the ballroom on the third floor. Note the musicians’ balcony on the upper right. There are many ways you can help preserve this Mason treasure.

The Texas Retired Teachers of the Tri County, containing Mason, Junction and Menard counties, presented the Head Start students with books for them to use to stimulate their reading skills.

The annual meeting of the Mason County of Friends of the Library was held on November 10, 2014. During the short business meeting the membership approved unanimously the following slate of officers for 2015: Co-Presidents Pam Scott and Nanci Gibbons; Secretary – Jan Strickland; Membership Chairman – Nan Larrimore; Treasurer – Wendy Hastings.

This feral hog that a friend of Robert Beaulieu's, Dave Swire, visiting them at Granite Oaks Ranch shot on November 1st, west of Mason. Dave wanted to shoot a hog to add to his bucket list. Since, fortunately, they had no hogs on the ranch, they set him up with the Wildlife Ranch Outfitters on the north edge of town.

Mason Carter Mills, son of Trey and Sarah Mills and great-grandson of Jerry Ellis, was born on August 5, 2014 at 2:56 a.m. He weighed in at eight pounds, nine ounces, and was 20 inches long.

The Mason Star Gazers will have their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, November 25, at 6:00 P.M. in the Stribling Room. Mark Ward of the Hill Country Astronomers in Fredericksburg will present “The Intricacies of the Milky Way.”

In preparation for their summer trip abroad, the Mason High School Spanish Club will be selling casseroles this Saturday in Brady at the Walmart from 8:00 to 12:00. These enchilada casseroles will be a perfect follow-up to Thanksgiving turkey. All proceeds will assist students with their expenses while on the ground.

All members of the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country are gearing up for their annual show and sale at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Parrish Hall (located at 210 S. Ave. B in Mason) on December 5 & 6. A large amount of local talent will be in full force and on display at the show, which promises to be both an art opening and a great opportunity for holiday shoppers to give a gift of creativity.

The Mason Study Club held its annual fundraiser, Chili On The Square, on Friday, November 14. It was a cold but glorious day for chili! A HUGE Thank You to the community for supporting the library by making this one of the best chili fundraisers ever. Thanks also to our wonderful members for their donations of homemade chili and toppings, and to those who braved the cold to help out.

Individuals affected by acute and chronic pain are invited to a free pain management presentation with dinner at Nacho’s Café in Mason on Tuesday, Dec. 2. A complimentary dinner will be provided at 6:00 p.m., and the presentation begins at 6:30. The presentation includes a participant-guided question-and-answer session with Ralph Menard, M.D., a nationally recognized pain management physician with the Hill Country Memorial Medical Group.
