The Mason Community Foundation (MCF) recently presented two more grants. The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is celebrating the 59th year of Stewardship week April 27 – May 4, 2014. The 2014 Stewardship Week is themed, “DIG DEEPER: Mysteries in the soil”.

My favorite Christmas movie is ‘A Christmas Story,’ in which little Ralphie wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. It’s a great movie and, of course, a classic piece of Americana. I try to watch it at least once a year. The first time I saw it, though, I was hardly prepared for the horror scene toward the end.

I am sure that all of you have always known that events happen in threes. Bill and Nita now have proof, as their daughter, Keeta, recently called to tell that our grandson, Aiden, had been accepted into the Westchester Academy, a charter school, beginning his sixth grade. She also states that she has recently received a new role and promotion with her employer, Ryerson Steel, of Houston in sales and quotations in the Fabrication Division.

On Tuesday, April 15th, seven members of the Mason Garden Club, took a day trip to Austin to tour the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and learn more about the native plants of Texas. After a stop at their Gift Shop, the group traveled on down the road to eat lunch on the lovely patio at Jack Allen’s Kitchen.

Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation is focusing its spring appeal on the goal of raising funds to purchase a digital breast tomosynthesis machine. This new machine uses 3D technology to create a clearer, more precise image of the breast. The 3D tomosynthesis mammogram machine operates like a CT scanner. It captures image “slices” of the breast from different angles and reconstructs them to produce an enhanced, highly accurate picture.

The Fredericksburg Music Club is pleased to present LoAn Lin in concert on the piano on April 27, 2014. The concert will be held at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 1800 N. Llano St., at 3:00. Seating will open at 2:30. While there is no charge for this concert, donations will be accepted.

Since London is a suburb of Erna, I will try to squeeze in a little about London, as it has outlived Erna as a metropolis and is still flourishing with a little activity, especially on Saturday night, as this has always been the trademark of London. When I lived in Houston, one would ask where I was from and I would say London and the reply was “Oh yes, London Hal” a common denominator.
