7th grade Our junior high season opener was against Comfort and our 7th grade came out ready to play. On both sides of the ball we saw some great things. Our offensive line did a great job of blocking up front for our backs and receivers and our defense didn’t allow a score all game.

The Cowgirls and Punchers competed in the first two meets of the season at the San Saba Invitational on September 4th and the Early Season Bandera Bulldog Meet on September 10th. The Cowgirls placed 1st overall as a team against some very tough competition in both San Saba and Bandera.

Fall has fell, rain has fallen, winds have changed. In the business of animal rescue we all come across heart breaking stories, and Izzie’s is no exception. We first met Izzie at the pound where she had just been recently dumped. Someone had left her in one of the outside kennels, and just walked away. She was quite thin, had problems eating, and walked into the walls of her kennel.

Though I’m not a gambling person, after listening to weather reports all week predicting a rainy weekend (last weekend as you read this article) I’m going to step out boldly and say how wonderful the rain and cooler weather was. Of course, many would contend that life itself IS a gamble, and they may be right.

September 9, 2014 marked the beginning of a great new schedule of upcoming events for the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country (FAAHC). In a meeting chaired by president, Rosemary Davis, a full and exciting list of arts demonstrations, lectures and local shows highlighted the schedule. Rosemary encouraged members to exhibit their art at the upcoming Old Yeller Days celebration to be held on September 27, 2014, at the courthouse square.

St. Paul Lutheran Church youth and adults participated recently in the “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Day of Service, a special day for ELCA Lutheran congregations across the United States to gather to serve communities in ways that share the love of God with all of God’s people. The volunteers enjoyed a wonderful afternoon helping to beautify a Mason County Habitat for Humanity home for a deserving family.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, September 9th, for its regular weekly meeting. There were 37 members and one visitor in attendance. Lion Elliott Courtright was responsible for the program and introduced Joyce Downie, a past Lions District Governor, who spoke about the Lions Club International Foundation which assists with funding for Lions Club projects around the globe. Hope you enjoyed the Fall weather preview. Was only a day, but it was nice. Saw some folks with jackets on. I wonder what they will wear when Fall really gets here? Fall is a good time. Nippy, but not cold. Cool, but not cold. It’s sort of like the settings on a washing machine: Cold, Cool, Warm and Hot.
