Mason County Habitat for Humanity has selected their newest recipient for their seventh home, and it is Jimie Menchaca. Jimie is a Mason County native, and works at Gems of the Hill Country. She responded to her recent selection: "As a native of Mason County, I am ecstatic to be selected to receive a Habitat for Humanity home. I am the daughter of Jimmy and Lucy Menchaca, and a descendant of Rafael Menchaca, one of the first settlers of Mason County. I have lived in Mason all my life. I graduated from Mason High School in 1993, and soon after, began working for Hill Country MHMR serving clients in the Fredericksburg area. During this time, I married Steve Airheart, also of Mason, and my daughter, India Genevieve, was born. India is now in the seventh grade and participates in band, basketball and art U.I.L. After ten years with MHMR, I decided to make a change and became involved in the local topaz industry, learning a great deal about silversmithing and about sales. I currently have been working for Gems of the Hill Country for two and a half years. As a single mother for over ten years, I am proud to participate, and be a part of, this wonderful program. It will allow me to continue to live here in Mason, where I will be able to raise my daughter among family and friends, the same way I was privileged to be raised."
