A formal ribbon cutting was held by the Mason County Chamber of Commerce for Mason Artisan Gallery on Thursday, March 11th. This Saturday, March 20th, will be the grand opening of the gallery. The building is a reconstruction of a small house built on the land in the 1880s. Some of the old wood has been recycled, and it is their hope that the gallery will be a fitting showplace for the works of eight Mason-area artists. The Mason Artisan Gallery is located on Live Oak Street, just north of the square, and will be open Wednesday through Saturday of each week. It will feature hand-thrown pottery, nature photography, items made of wool from Mason County sheep, acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings. There will also be a silver jewelry artist and pen and ink sketches of local interest. This will be a "working gallery," with the artist manning the store often bring "works in progress" to work on while the public watches. They hope to possibly have art lessons and visiting instructors in the future, and to also have some events highlighting guest artists and their work.
