Members of the Mason Community Foundation and Alpha Beta Psi community service organization take time to celebrate the wonderful new playground at Steady Steps Children’s Weekday Ministry at the First United Methodist Church in Mason. Both of these groups provided grant money to help with the new playground. As you can see, the Steady Steppers LOVE it!

Riata held its regular meeting in the Community Room of the Mason Bank, Jerrie Owens served as hostesses and Pat Tucker as co-hostess. Kay Evans presented the program on her recent trip to Africa. Kay presented a very informative program using a video and explaining the different projects the people of Rwanda, which means, United are engaged in such as manmade Bee hives , spin, dye and make their own yarn , True Vineyard greeting cards made from recycled paper.

MASON, TEXAS - Representatives from Mason Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) met at 2:00 p.m., November 18, 2014, at Mason Bank, 111 Westmoreland Street, Mason, Texas, to present a $12,000 Partnership Grant Program (PGP) award to Mason County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH). MCHFH was formed in 2002 with the goal of building one home per year.

On Thursday, November 20, the Spanish 1 class of Mrs. Tammi Pinter spent the morning practicing their Spanish with the group Desayuno con Carmen (Breakfast with Carmen). This is a weekly group of individuals who want to learn and practice conversational Spanish led by Carmen Griffith of Mason. Meetings occur on Thursdays at 9am at the Mason County M.

On December 5-6, the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parrish Hall will be the location of the annual Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country’s annual show and sale. Hours will be from 5-8 p.m. on the 5th and from 10-3 p.m. on the 6th. The Association is comprised of interested artists and collectors from Mason, Kimble, Menard and McCullough counties.

Well, it goes without saying that Buddy’s last ride was amazing in its own right and now he has had another one. Standing on the outside step of the ambulance for 18-21 miles is no small feat, especially if you only have four small feet. He was using all four paws on that twisty, winding, narrow, bumpy, one lane bridge, cattle guard infested ride.

Tanya Buys of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dan and Judith Barton of Mason announce the engagement of Chrysteena Lairamore and James Barton. Chrysteena will complete her MBA at San Francisco State University in the spring of 2015. James is a partner with Point Forward in Redwood City, California. The couple is planning a wedding in March, 2015, in Austin, Texas.

Kelley, Britny (Lehmberg) and Pierce Fowler are thrilled to announce that they have added another precious miracle to their family. The newest blessing is a baby girl, Arabelle Joy Fowler, born September 4, 2014, in Austin, Texas. She weighed in at seven pounds and a quarter ounce, and was 19.5 inches long.

By the time I heard about Buddy, everyone else had already heard about him, too. So I figured there really wasn’t any use in me writing a story about a dog that rode 20 miles on the side step of an ambulance because his owner was inside. Plus, I like to write about stuff no one has heard about.

One good invention in my life time are “CAN BISCUITS & ROLLS!” However, convenient they are, there is a down side. It might be just me, but opening a can of these honeys can be a hazard! It’s when you start to peel off the outer cardboard cover and the whole thing pops in your hand.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, November 18th, for its regular weekly meeting. There were 29 members and two visitors in attendance. Lion Jim Heath was responsible for the program and introduced Lisa Goehmann who spoke about Bluebonnet CASA. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a program that assigns volunteers to go to court with children during custody and foster hearings, or any hearing that is covered by Child Protective Services.

The Art church is beginning to look like Christmas after last Sunday’s “Hanging of the Greens.” You should see it! Begin to plan for the second week of December when the Art church will be distributing the food at the Food Bank.
