The faculty and students at Mason High School like to show our appreciation to the supportive community who helped make the 2010 National Blue Ribbon School Award a reality for us. To that end, four years ago we created “Blue Ribbon Service Day” to repay our community, and it has become an annual event.

Last Thursday, the JV Purple traveled to Junction to take on the Eagles. The Puncher defense started off the game with a fumble recovery on the opening drive. With the turnover they were able to take it down the field go up 7-0. The Punchers were able to hold on to the lead going into halftime up 15-6.

7th grade The seventh grade traveled to Rocksprings this past week and added another win to their record. They started out strong in the first half and jumped out to a 26-7 at half but let Rocksprings come back on them and scored 2 unanswered touchdowns. They were able to hold on to the lead with a 26-21 win.

Austin – A mobile station issuing Election Identification Certificates (EICs) will be at the Historical Building in Mason for three days in October. On Tuesday, Oct. 21 and Wed., Oct. 22, the station will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 23, the station will operate from 11 a.m.

SCOUT! Scout is a beautiful 1 – ½ year old Red Heeler Mix who is an absolute sweetheart. He was found out in the country, and was in very poor condition. The poor guy had not seen a decent meal in quite some time. A loving family took care of him until Second Chance could get him in to a foster home.

The JV White team played a good game against Cross Plains last Thursday night, winning 26-14. The offensive line led the charge allowing for all four of the running backs to score a touchdown. The defense also played well as the Punchers were able to force and recover a fumble.

The Odeon Preservation Association regrets to announce that the October 18 concert with Kara Grainger has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. However, there is still a wonderful opportunity, that same night, to hear some great music in Mason and for a good cause. The MISD Education Foundation Street Dance will feature music by the Thom Shepherd & Coley McCabe band.

The Mason Art Walk is back for its fall season and will be in full swing at the Mason Artisan Gallery on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4. Come for wine and snacks from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and meet the local artists and artisans whose works are available for sale in this diverse collection.

The Wesley Nurse at First United Methodist Church invites you to take part in a grief and loss support group open to all citizens in the Mason area. The focus of the support group is to offer a time of listening and caring while participants work through the loss of someone, or something dear to them.

Ezequiel Torrez, 89, of Burlington Colorado, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014. He was born in La Cuestita Michoacán, Mexico, on July 20, 1925. He was born to Ezequiel Torres and Maria Herlinda Cervantes. He leaves a legacy of hard work, humility, respect and unwavering faith. He married his childhood sweetheart, Juanita, at the age of 17 and they recently celebrated their 71st anniversary. Roy Carl Lehmberg, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, at the age of 89. Visitation with the family was Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason.

Nolan Donop received a letter from the Texas South Plains Honor Flight to pack his bags. It stated that he was selected to participate in the 2014 Texas South Plains Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. The National Honor Flight is honoring World War II Veterans.
