The students at Grace Christian School were recently gifted with dictionaries of their very own, compliments of the Leon Valley Grange. This agriculturally based Community Service organization promotes education of the youth of Texas with The Dictionary Project. In addition to word definitions, these dictionaries include The Constitution, a brief synopsis of each President, as well as facts about each state.

Well it is that time of year again…..Fall fundraiser! We will have our Fresh Country Meats and desserts for sale from now until October 15th. We are offering meats, including, bacon, hunters variety pack, Black Angus slider patties, three kinds of ham and two kinds of turkey; our dessert offerings range from classic cookie dough to cinnamon rolls and peach cobbler.

The JV traveled to De Leon last Thursday and took on the Bearcats. The Puncher defense shut the Bearcats down, while the offense had no problem scoring on multiple occasions. The final score was 36-0 with the Punchers coming out with their second win of the season. The Puncher JV is now 2-0 on the season.

The recent annual meeting of the Mason County Historical Society had Jean Brown visiting with speaker, Larry Cissna, of Sweeney, and Carolyn Loeffler showing an artifact found near her home on Centennial/Gamel Creek, and Barabara Pluenneke also visited with the group. Cissna is with the "Dig Gusy" who search old forts and Civil War sites.

It is that time of year again! The Llano County Junior Livestock Show Association will be hosting the 5th Annual Wild Game Dinner on September 13th, 2014, at the John L. Kuykendall Event Center. The newly constructed facility is 25,000 square feet, climate controlled with restrooms and concession stand, located at 2200 Ranch Road 152, Llano, Texas.

Barry Deans (center) of the Voca Volunteer Fire Department accepts a $1000 check from Charles Loeffler (director of Hill Country Telecommunications) while Angelina Deans watches. Hill Country is donating these checks to all of the volunteer fire departments in their service area in support of the wonderful job they do for their communities.

**Ranchers Applying for LFP Support Who Have Scheduled Appointments by Sept. 30th Will not be Impacted  WASHINGTON, Sept. 2, 2014 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is encouraging producers who have suffered eligible disaster-related losses to act to secure assistance by Sept. 30, 2014, as congressionally mandated payment reductions will take place for producers who have not acted before that date.

Lethargy. Ennui. Malaise. Pick a term, they all point back to the same symptoms. We all, at some time in our lives, seem to wander into the backwater eddies of life. We go from being decisive, determined and full steam ahead to muddled and out of focus. I know that everyone has their moments, so I'm not worried that this is something that just affects me.

The lobster is a large bug. It crawls around on the bottom of the ocean, eating whatever falls from up above, such as fish parts, and fish doots, and whoever Marlon Brando has decided to sink lately, and other stuff you should avoid thinking about, especially if you happen to be eating a lobster while you’re reading this.

Digestion is a top to bottom process that is vital to our health. Digestion is the means by which we assimilate nutrients that run our bodies. Problems with digestion interfere with the way our bodies are fed at a cellular level. I always say that we are what we eat, assimilate and do not eliminate.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, September 7th, for its monthly business meeting. There were 27 members and one visitor in attendance. A thank you letter was read from the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville thanking our club for giving 300% of the recommended dues to fund the camp. Secretary/Treasurer Gene Gammill read minutes from the board meeting held prior to the regular meeting and gave the financial reports. The club reminds anyone interested in participating in the September 27th 5K/10K ...

I haven’t always scored high in staying focused. No, I don’t have that ADHD or whatever they want to call it now disease. I just don’t want to tend to what I need to attend to at that moment. If it isn’t a matter of life or death, I will let it slide.

Slow cookers are fantastic kitchen appliances. They require a little planning ahead but they save so much time and effort!! Many people have had them handed down to them like a treasured family heirloom. But if you’ve never owned one before, cleaning a slow cooker can be a bit of a mystery.
