Would you like to learn more about Aladdin lamps? Here is your opportunity. The next meeting of the Cen-Tex Collectors' Guild will be on Thursday, 9 September 2010, at 1:30 in the afternoon. The program will feature a local collector of Aladdin lamps. The Guild meets in Fredericksburg in the Golden Hub Community Center at 1009 North Lincoln Street (the end of Lincoln Street).
Looking for something different to do Labor Day weekend? You are invited to visit a historic country school. Crabapple School, one of the 15 historic country schools in Gillespie County will be open Saturday September 4, 11a.m. to 3p.m. The Crabapple school is located at 14671 Lower Crabapple Road. This is one with original desks and blackboards that was active in the late 1800s: early 1900s, original building built in 1878.

We are so excited to be starting another school year! I hope you have all enjoyed reading the wonderful articles that some of our mentors have shared with over the past few weeks. If you are contemplating becoming a mentor this is a TERRIFIC time to get started! Of course, we would be happy to hear from you ANY TIME! All of us at the school are so grateful to every one of our mentors for the important role they play in each of these student’s lives.
The London School Reunion and Homecoming has been set for Saturday, September 25th. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Community Center. Coffee and cookies will be available for the early birds and a noon meal of fried catfish with all the trimmings by Johnny Jacoby will be served. The cost for the meal will be $8.00 and must be ordered and paid for in advance.
Are you looking for a safe, fun and enriching afterschool program for your K-8th grade students? The ACE program offers all this and more beginning on August 30th! ACE (Afterschool Centers on Education) is the Texas component of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers federal grant program which provides a FREE afterschool program for grant recipients.
Tannenbaum is in need of a sponsor. The Mason County Museum will not longer be sponsoring this event. Any Mason County Civic Organization interested in extra income should contact 347-6681, 347-5151 or the Chamber of Commerce for information. It is necessary for the new sponsor to become involved immediately for crafters must be contacted now as well as advertising for the November 27 event.
The Haven Family Shelter is changing the dates that we are in Mason. Effective September 1st, The Haven will be in Mason every 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month. The location is still the Historical Building and time is still 10-2.
For the last six years, Mason ISD has been a recipient of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers federal grant. For the first five years, the program served the elementary and junior high schools. Last year, we began including the high school level – but with a twist! With so many of our high school students involved in afterschool activities, we decided to have a BEFORE school program for them. Last year, we offered expanded homework assistance and math tutorials ...
