First Friday Art Walk Mason galleries and studios are inviting the public to come out on Friday, May 4 to see what is new in the local art scene. First Friday Art Walks are becoming popular community traditions through the country with many cities and towns celebrating the elements of area artists and musicians, retailers and galleries.

The annual meeting of the Gooch Cemetery Association will occur on Friday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. in the Stribling Room of the Mason County Library.
Included on the agenda is an update from Deann Gregg regarding the very interesting and informative books she has compiled which contain history and gravesite identifications of all known burials in both the old and new parts of Gooch Cemetery.

It’s that time of the year again and the City Pool is scheduled to open on Monday, May 28th 2012 at 10:30am. Our hours of operation have changed slightly, and we wanted everyone to know about them, so a schedule is attached to this article. We will be adding a new Vortex Slide to the pool this year that is scheduled to be here on May 3rd, and we will installed shortly after it arrives.

Work continues on the northwest room of the Officers' Quarters as a memorial to Wibby Shearer. Gene Zesch and his sister, Peggy Laverty, of Colorado, continue to update the pictures of twenty generals from Fort Mason, plus artifacts discovered around the old fort buildings.

One of the unique auction items for this weekend's Volunteer Fire Department auction is this beautiful and unique Glenn Marshall knife. The collector's piece was donated by Frank Habecker, who plans on enjoying some of the great barbecue prior to the auction!

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Library is partnering with the art teachers and student to exhibit their work at the library. The Fourth Graders’ art is on display for May. Please come see their imaginative interpretations of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

This month, the members of American Legion Post 285 along with the help of VFW Post 8554 and volunteers will be placing more than 750 memorial flags on veterans’ graves throughout Mason County. A Memorial Day flag placed on a veteran’s grave honors each veteran’s sacrifice to serve in the Armed Forces that protect and defend our beloved country.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is excited to be able to offer computer classes for beginners. Three classes will be offered: Computer Basics I, Computer Basics II, and Using the Internet, Facebook, and email. Computer Basic I will meet Thursday, May 3 from 6:30 P.M.-7:30 P.M.

On June 2nd 10AM boaters and floaters will meet under the Highway 87 bridge over the River Llano.
It’s 8 miles south of Mason Texas off the Hwy. 87 South/(or North) right under the bridge! The race is going back to it’s roots of rough and ready riders…..
The fee for this year is $20.
