Gerardo and Debbie Marquez of San Antonio are the proud parents of a daughter born Thursday, January 26, 2012, at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.Born at 1:39 a.m., she weighed six pounds, 10 ounces and was 19.25 inches in length. She was named Sophia Grace.Welcoming the baby are one sister, Gabriella; four brothers, Edgar, Xavier, Andres, and Noah.Proud grandparents are: Carmen Castro and the late Alfred Castro, Sr.

The MHS football program has been on quite a roll over the past four years. Three deep playoff runs in 2008-2009-2010 and Mason’s first State Championship in 2011. The program which has seen more then its share of talented players come through the system is now starting to see more and more players move on to the next level, which has laid the ground work for future MHS players to chase the dream of playing college football.
Proud grandparents, Randy & Julie Moore of Fredonia, announce the birth of their grandsons, Henry Arthur Hills (at left) and Roan Alan Moore. These sweet boys were born two weeks and an ocean apart!! Henry arrived on October 27, 2011, weighing nine pounds, three ounces, and Roan entered our world on November 10, 2011, weighing seven pounds, thirteen ounces.

Lieutenant Colonel Brown is enthusiastically recommended for the Bronze Star for his meritorious service while serving as the Future Operations Officer (FOPSO) for 2d Marine Aircraft Wing(Forward) (2d MAW(Fwd)), II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward)[II MEF(Fwd)], in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) from 10 February 2010 to 09 August 2011.
Wade Powell, pastor of Hilda United Methodist Church, has released a new book designed to enhance the Lenten journey. In his book, The Way of the Cross: A Companion to Lenten Devotion, he takes us on a journey with Jesus from his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane to being laid in the tomb.The book begins with an introduction to Lent.

STEPHENVILLE, TX (02/03/2012)(readMedia)— Makenzie Mitchell of Mason was recently named to Tarleton State University’s A Honor Roll List for the fall 2011 semester at the university’s Stephenville campus. Allen Eckert tied for the Second Place Championship at the Temple Winter Chess Tournament. The tournament was held on January 28th.Allen won two games and tied one game, being one of three players to go undefeated in the Open Section. Competing with Allen at the tournament were players from Austin, College Station, Copperas Cove, Georgetown, Killeen, Kosse, Temple and Waco.
On January 31st, Terry Keese, District Operations Supervisor, retired after more than34 years of dedicated service. Fellow workers gathered for a small party in his honor at the Mason District office.Terry was hired by Bill Ivey on September 26, 1977. Two local artists, Robin E. Clark and Dorrett Townsend, have had works accepted for the 14th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit in Brownwood. Their works are two of the 130 pieces selected for the show from a pool of 376 entries. Both artists are charter members of the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country, a four county organization based in Mason.Clark’s highly abstracted digital collage, “Road Trip,” received one of 15 cash awards.

Katherine Gladys Vick and Justin Earl Bibb, Jr. were united in marriage at 7:00 P.M., on September 24, 2011, at Perkins Chapel, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Timothy Scott Frickenschmidt. Vocalist James Treg Hudson, Jr., cousin of the groom, organist Benjamin Kolodziej and pianist Rozanna Vancil provided the nuptial music.
