Legendary Dallas Cowboys football coach Tom Landry always believed that your offensive line is your identity and defense wins championships. Our Punchers epitomized that philosophy last Friday as they stunned the Longhorns of Harper, 28-12. Our Punchers who came in as a 10 point underdog seemed to have an answer for everything that Class 2A Harper threw at them.
Apple Fest 2010 is upon us. This Saturday, 4 September, Apple Fest revelers will be descending on the Mason County Court house lawn. Families are expected from all over Texas! Last year as many as 3000 people spent the day in and around Mason to enjoy all that Apple Fest and Mason country have to offer.
Statistics indicate that foodborne illness continues to be a health issue in the United States. Each year, 1 in 4 Americans will become sick, 1 in 1,000 will become hospitalized, and 5,000 will die due to a foodborne illness. If under the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) jurisdiction each food establishment is required to have one certified food manager on site.
During Sunday's special service at First United Methodist Church for students and teachers, third graders Javier Garcia, Aaron Reardon, Zane Shoemaker and Klay Klaerner were presented Bibles by Rev. Tim Fahrenthold, Photos by Willeda Rea.
LCRA Transmission Services Corporation (LCRA TSC) is encouraging Hill Country landowners with suggestions for route modifications to a new transmission line that may cross their property to work closely with its representatives. In an effort to gather as much public input as possible and to route the project in the least- offensive and least-intrusive manner to individual landowners, LCRA TSC is continuing to review suggested segment modifications.

All the discussion about this year's schedule will become a reality Friday night, August 27th, as our Punchers begin a swing of six non-district games. The season opener will be played at the Puncher Dome against the Longhorns of Harper with a kickoff time of 7:30PM. The last time the Longhorns and Punchers met was 2007.
Public officials from four Hill Country counties participated in the August 19, 2010 Public Utility Commission (PUC) Open Meeting in Austin. Those making comments in the combined Gillespie to Newton (G-N) and McCamey D to Kendall to Gillespie (M-K-G) CREZ transmission line agenda items were Kerr County Judge Wayne Tinley, Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden, Mason Mayor Brent Hinckley, Gillespie County Commissioner Donnie Schuch and Llano County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Linda Ballard.
There is a new and exciting extra-curricular opportunity coming to the kiddos of Mason. It is the Teams of Tomorrow (TOT) program. TOT is a basketball ball handling and dribbling program that was created by educators to enrich the Pre-K curriculum while building gross and fine motor skills, instilling good character, and building self-confidence.
Hill Country Memorial Hospital is welcoming family medicine physician Christa E. O’Leary, DO, to its medical staff. Dr. O’Leary has joined the practice of Jason N. Peet, MD, at 110 E. Live Oak St. In addition to offering full scope family medicine services for all ages, Dr. O’Leary has a clinical emphasis in obesity and women’s health issues.
The Mason Community Foundation is currently seeking grant applications from Mason non-profit organizations for the current cycle that ends September 1, 2010. The profits from the Community Thrift Store, which is run by the Foundation, have continued to be very strong, and therefore the Board set aside significant funds to provide for these grants.
