The One Act Play Zone Contest was held on March 21 in Sonora. Mason High School’s One Act Company presented scenes from “Cheaper By the Dozen.” Their performance was awarded with advancement to the District Competition. Other individual awards earned at the zone competition were: Best Actor – Jacob Bibb; All-Star Cast Members – Claudia Canfield, Caroline Hudson, Star Longoria and Brodey Taylor.

The City of Mason will be holding a General Election for City Commissioner District 1 and City Commissioner District 3, on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Early voting begins Monday, April 30, 2012, in the City Office Building, 124 Moody St., and concludes Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Early voting hours are 8:00 a.m.

FREDERICKSBURG (MARCH 22, 2012) – International best-practices HVAC contractor organization AirTime500 named 72 Degrees Heating & Air Conditioning its Service Company of the Year and Business Professional Company of the Year for 2011 at its recent Expo in New Orleans. Only the top one percent of heating and cooling contractors are members of AirTime 500.

During their regular March 16 meeting, the board members of Mason I.S.D. addressed the increased reliance of state and national education officials on standardized testing of students.The board members expressed their concerns that, as Robert Scott (Commissioner of Education) had stated, high stakes testing has become "a perversion of its original intent."

H-E-B has again selected Texas Nature Project to partner with in their Community Program for Environmental Affairs. Over the past five years, Texas Nature Project has provided eighty-eight Sustainable Leadership Workshops in Mason, for a total of over 1,600 students in Texas, with the generous assistance of many, many guest faculty - eighty in all - for a total of 16,480 hours of experiential-service learning.

On January 2, 2012, Bonnie Beam and Marla Schooley opened Mason’s Good To Go. As new members of the Mason County Chamber of Commerce, a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house were held on Friday, March 23rd. Good to Go offers specialty coffees (by the cup, grind or bean), Blue Bell ice cream, fresh baked goods,casseroles to go and catering services.

The first spring storm of the year rolled into Mason Monday afternoon, one day before the first day of spring. Brief hail, high winds and rain accompanied the storm.

Austin Garrett, 15, of Mason was killed and three other youngsters critically injured Thursday afternoon in an automobile accident on Highway 29, approximately 11 miles west of Mason. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Garrett was a passenger in a 1987 Toyota Forerunner that appeared to have had a blow-out at 4:35 p.m.

In cooperation with the Texas Forest Service (San Angelo District) and the Placid Communuity VFD in McCulloch Co, we were able to acquire this military 5 ton truck. We will use it for a much needed tanker and it is a welcome addition to our fleet.We are very thankful for the Texas Forest Service and all the great folks at the Placid VFD in helping us acquire this truck.
