The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, March 2nd, for its monthly business meeting. There were 40 members and no visitors in attendance. "Boss" Lion Chris Dyer was responsible for the program and Sec./Tres. Gene Gammill read the minutes and gave the financial report. Denwood Butler finished giving his program on the land owned by the Lions Club.
DNA is our cellular blueprint. It is part of our genetic makeup that controls how our cells reproduce. I have just come across some fascinating research that references specific nutrients for actually protecting and preserving our DNA so that our genetic tendencies towards developing degenerative diseases are warded off. Much research has gone into proving that so called genetic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and more are actually the result of damage to the cellular D ...
In my experience very few people want to hear bad news, and so most of the time when someone asks me how things are going my immediate response is that "things are just fine!" Of course sometimes that is stretching the facts considerably, but most of the time things are going very well around the City. The last couple of weeks have been a little less "wonderful"
Food. Not so simple anymore. So many questions surround it. Paper or plastic? Sweet or unsweetened? Medium or rare? Hot tea or iced tea? Spicy or mild? Red or green sauce? With or without cheese? Mayonnaise or mustard? Chips or fries? Regular bun or Texas toast? Small, medium, or large? Is that for here or to go? Smoking or non-smoking? How many in your party? ...
A light drizzle is about all we got all day Sunday and that is all we probably will get for a few days. Stay dry and warm. David and Carolyn Vater were celebrating their 12th anniversary on Sunday. And Nathaniel and Wanda Jordan will celebrate their anniversary on March 11th. Jill Kettner Cochran celebrates her birthday on March 14th and Jerald Jordan has a birthday coming up on March 18th.
Corn or Flour? If you are a tortilla lover like I am, you knew right away what this article would be about. I was getting ready for nutrition ed at the school when I started researching this question. I thought I’d share my findings plus the recipes I made with the 3rd graders this week! I love Mexican food, but I’ve often wondered which is the better choice, nutrition-wise: flour or corn tortillas? To be honest, there are so many types of tortill ...
Signing Off on Late-Night TV… If memory serves, and often it doesn’t, the question was first posed to open TV newscasts. With piercing eyes and a facial expression as serious as a tax audit, the announcer slowly repeated these words: "It’s ten o’clock….Do you know where your children are?" In those days, most parents smiled knowingly, confident that their answer was a no-brainer.
Life at Z’s wouldn’t be so much fun, if not for our puppy dogs. Uncle Archie will share his bed with the other little ones, but he’s to get on it first! The two Doxie’s must understand Bassett, however the Chihuahua, Nacha, hasn’t mastered Bassett as her second language. Uncle Archie isn’t aggressive and chooses to bark and bark and bark for Nacha to get off his bed.
Governments are a lot like two-year-olds. They often seem to be trying to push those on whom they depend for support as far as possible without actually going over the line and incurring punishment. A toddler’s reprimand might involve a time out, or whatever new age parents do these days to pretend they’re punishing their children.
A large part of the money that pays for the library’s new books, audio books, and DVD’s comes from the annual Lone Star Grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
