Deeds of a "Best Samaritan"...
His smile said much and his words said even more, but good deeds during his “three score and ten” life trumped them both. Alzheimer’s finally had its way with Hal Rowe recently, but during the seven-year ordeal, he was talked out of little—and had his way with much—in a life that inspired, delighted and encouraged. More than 500 people gathered at his beloved Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock for a memorial service bathed in rich memories of ...
Many may be wondering how I can get to the story of Erna when I am going back to the days of the fight for Texas Independence in 1836. I found that I needed to lead into the exploration of the area prior to the settlement, which I will try to do in a couple more articles as I try to bring an end to the Republic of Texas.
Where did April go and what happened to “April showers bring May flowers”? I was so hopeful that April was going to be really wet. Now they’re saying May could be wet. We shall see. If it doesn’t rain soon, our Wilman Love grass will be dormant for another year.
\There’s always something to see at the library. This week we’re launching a new partnership with the art teachers and students. There are several signs of Spring in Mason every year, such as the spectacular wildflowers that are now changing from blue to yellow, white and red and the arrival of the many visitors that come to enjoy the country views. One of the more local signs of Spring is the variety of fundraising events that crowd the calendar and beg us to attend and contribute each year.
Precautions to Avoid Bee Stings and Attacks
I was told by a 4-H leader recently about his friend that was attacked by bees in the Brady area, and they were thought to be Africanized as they were very aggressive. So we thought this might be a good article topic as lots of you are getting your yards into shape for summer and cutting down the trees that died in the drought.
The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, April 24th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 29 members in attendance. Lion Roger Luckenbach was responsible for the program and "Boss" Lion Kirby Groves introduced Vicki Ritter with the Eckert-James River Bat Cave, who spoke about the many experiences she has had over the last several years that she has been the bat cave steward. She talked about he many types of wildlife that can be observed at the Bat Cave while she showe ...
Every once in a while I’ll have a day that is totally spent on replacement of items. One day last week I woke up and went to the bathroom and only had two squares of toilet paper on the tube. Refilled the toilet paper. Went to the kitchen to pour myself a cup of coffee, only about a fourth of a cup remained.
