What a good way to start Spring, than with a good slow soaking rain. One of the laws of Mason County is to have a good rain gauge. Why? That’s a no brainer, because when there is a rain, everyone wants to know how much rain you had. Personally, I gauge the rain by the pot holes in the drive way, also known as “Lake Zesch.” Don’t laugh, I’m pretty right most of the time. Most of what I write about falls on deaf ears, but it does help to vent.

Brain researchers now believe that keeping the brain active by learning new things such as a new language may help prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s. The rain was very nice last week, and with the warm weather this week I expect we will see spring popping up everywhere. Hopefully the trees will start turning green with new buds and the wildflowers will start their annual show and turn the hillsides blue for the next few weeks.

There are some important safe handling methods to remember this time of year when you’re decorating, cooking or hiding Easter eggs since eggs are handled a great deal more than usual around Easter. Remember to: * Wash your hands thoroughly with hot soapy water and rinse them before handling the eggs when cooking, cooling, dyeing and hiding them. * Be sure and inspect the eggs before purchasing them, making sure they are not dirty or cracked.

While watching the CBS Evening News expecting the usual “The world is coming to an end coverage”, to my surprise, they had a story about a Senior Citizen who was an exercise fanatic. She works out four days a week in the gym lifting weights, doing push-ups, and all the exercise programs in the gym.

Ask any chiropractor, masseur or masseuse, and answers will be similar. Most Americans are tense, on the wrong side of the frazzle equation. They are sheep--“go-alongers,” if you will-- figuring if the finish line is reached without indebtedness, so be it. To live positively is considered wishful thinking, perhaps attainable only with medication or something stronger. Generally, we are in a “hunkering” mode, as if our avoidance of “boat-rocking” or “noise-making” is critical to ...
