The Punchers face off with the Shiner Comanches in Leander, Texas, at 7:30 pm on Friday, November 22, 2013. The game is at the Bible Memorial Stadium 3301 S. Bagdad Road. The drawing for the 2015 Puncher home game box seat tickets will be held on Wednesday,September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. The drawing will be held at the Administration Office on the north side of the square (200 Ft. McKavitt St.). In order to be entered into the drawing, a check for $240 needs to be delivered to the Administrative office prior to the drawing date.

KNEL 95.3FM radio listeners came to the aid of three year old Precious Payton Martinez last week in the amount of $4,100 to help with medical expenses. Precious Payton is battling Undifferentiated Soft Tissue Sarcoma cancer. For the last two and a half years, she has been subject to several surgeries and chemo in an attempt to battle the cancer.

The Harper Community Park Association will be celebrating their ”50th Annual Harper Frontier Days Celebration” Labor Day Weekend, August 29th - 31st. This 3 day event kicks off Friday August 29th at 6 p.m. with Open Draw Pot Team Roping. Draw 3 for $150/Man, and roping will immediately follow barrel race.

Mason County Queen’s Court had another successful weekend! Friday morning, they participated in the Gillespie County Parade and received yet another blue ribbon. A big thank you to Mason Bank for sponsoring them during this parade! Also, thanks to Wendy Hudson for assisting with float decorations and her expert advice.

Felix Velez Jr., of Brady and formerly of Mason, passed away on Friday, August 22, at the age of 54. Visitation was Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7 following the visitation. Funeral services were held graveside at the Crosby Cemetery on Tuesday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m.

Leta Mae (Williams) Durst, 97, of Mason, passed away Wednesday evening, August 20, 2014. She was born Leta Mae Williams on December 19, 1916, to Henry and Ola Williams on the family ranch in Chesser Valley, Mills County. Leta Mae, born and raised, worked and lived near Mullin most of her life.

Walter H. “Sonny” Durst, age 89, passed away Monday morning August 25, 2014. He was born April 25, 1925 to parents, Walter A. Durst and Erna (Immel) Durst in Fredericksburg, Texas. He was a faithful member of Calvary Lighthouse Assembly of God in Mason, Texas. On September 30, 1943 Walter married Myrtle Mae Crouch in Brady, Texas.

Where did the summer go? It has been extremely busy this summer at Mason ISD. One of the most important tasks was to complete the hiring of the staff. We have several new teachers and other personnel this year. The response to listing of personnel in the newspaper last year was very positive, so I thought I would do it again.

The Llano River Bed and Breakfast is open and welcoming visitors, and the Mason County Chamber of Commerce welcomed them with an official ribbon cutting last week. After an unexpected closing of Raye Carrington's bed and breakfast last summer, it is with great pleasure that the owners announce the opening of the Llano River Bed and Breakfast.

The Summer Meltdown Challenge wrapped up on Friday, August 15th with a covered dish salad luncheon at River of Life Church. There was much celebrating of the fun we had & congratulations to the 3 top winners who logged the most hours exercising. The 3rd place winner was Jane Lakin.

Beautiful tortoiseshell kitten. Persy is a three-month old kitten that was rescued off the street and brought to Second Chance - Mason Animal Rescue. This little girl loves to play, loves to be held and pretty much would like your undivided attention! She is very people oriented, and will make a great companion cat.

Last week, the Mason County Chamber of Commerce held an official ribbon cutting to welcome their newest member business, The Line Shack. The Line Shack is a new café in town specializing in beef and seafood. They’re located at 805 San Antonio St, and they are open Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
