No doubt I’ve mentioned this before, but one of my favorite movies is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It’s about a guy named Monte who has this Grail, which is Holy, and he can’t find it, so he gets a bunch of guys to travel around with him and help him look for it.

For April and May the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will be brightened with Pam Scott’s Pyramids in the Sand quilt. Pam commented, “Every quilter knows about half-square triangles. It is a basic block that everyone uses from time to time. An ATTACK on the frontier outpost known as FORT MASON was of a different sort recently, as members of Mason’s Bed & Breakfast Association advanced from all sides to give a good ‘drubbing’ in cleaning the display rooms there. The Mason Community Thrift Store has another great item up for Silent Auction this month, an original painting by local artist (extraordinaire!), Sue Kaan. The painting is entitled “Mason County Cactus” which has the scene of yellow prickly pear cactus painted in acrylics and set in a 13” x 16” frame of weathered barn-wood.

Since our last update, Mason Junior High tennis players have competed in a practice dual and an invitational tournament. On Wednesday, April 1, St. Mary’s from Fredericksburg traveled over for a dual match. We were able to play for about 30 minutes before the one rain cloud on radar that day was over Mason.

Punchers beat Eldorado 8-4 in seven innings on Friday at Eldorado TX behind Luis Castillo, who had two extra base hits. He doubled in the fourth and seventh innings. Hunter Kunc handled Eldorado’s lineup with ease, racking up 11 strikeouts. Kunc allowed three earned runs on three hits and six walks over seven innings. Punchers was sparked by Castillo and Daniel Parker, who teamed up for five hits and five RBIs. Eldorado jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third.

Due to inclement weather Opening Day for Mason Youth Baseball and Softball has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 18th. Please come out and enjoy a day at the park. Games start at 11 am and will be played throughout the day. We will be serving your choice of BBQ plate with beans, potato salad, bread, pickles and onions; sausage wrap or hotdog meals. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making this baseball season a success.

Our season teed off in January and my boys were chomping at the bit to get out to the course. Many of the “Newbie’s” soon realized that gloves and a toboggan were high on the, “I gotta have list”. January and February are our two coldest golfing months and this year was no exception.

Each year members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association give back to their communities by serving others. TRTA members serve their communities by volunteering in schools, health care facilities, libraries, and churches; by participating in civic organizations and serving on boards and as officers of organizations; and by working on fundraisers and preparing meals.

West Texas Rehabilitation Center will hold their annual Ride For Rehab April 25 & 26 on the beautiful and historic Blockhouse Ranch in Mason County in the center of the Texas Hill Country. The ranch is located approximately 15 miles west of Mason on HWY 29. The official Cowboy Poet Of Texas Red Steagall will participate in the ride and possibly entertain around the campfire Saturday night.

Letter to the Editor, As many are aware, Ft. Mason Park is owned by the County of Mason, but the City of Mason has been responsible for operating and caring for the park since the 1980’s. Recently, the City of Mason approached the County requesting that ownership of Ft. Mason Park be transferred to the City.
