The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is offering a free Excel II class. Participants must have taken Excel I or be familiar with Excel. The four-night class will begin on Tuesday, September 15, at 6:00 P.M. Carol Tucker will be the instructor. Please call 325-347-5446 to register.

Lucas Martin brought a presentation of his week-long Youth Range Workshop, sponsored by the Texas Section Society for Range Management, to the members of the Mason County Soil & Water Conservation District. The Mason County Soil & Water Conservation District sponsors local students that are interested in any of the workshops that are available each year.

The JV White traveled to Irion County last week and played a hard fought game; but, came up a bit short. The final score was 46-8. The Punchers put together an impressive drive late in the game to put some points on the board. This week the JV White team will play De Leon JV in Mason, Thursday Sept.

The JV purple played their season opener at Ozona last Thursday. Ozona took the opening drive and busted a 60 yard run down the sideline to take the lead 8-0. The Punchers would answer on the next drive tying it up 8-8 with a 60 yard drive that was capped off with a QB sneak for 1 yard by Tyson Keller.

The Spanish to English Class will resume at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library on Monday, September 14, at 6:30 in the Stribling Room. The class is free, and childcare will be provided. Ceil Worden and volunteers from the Friends of the Library will be teaching the class.

If you missed the Seaquist House Foundation’s first “official” tour since purchasing the house held on July 11th during Roundup, we now have a schedule of regularly scheduled tours. They will be held the first Saturdays of the month on September 5, October 3, November 7 and December 5. The tours will run from 10:00 a.m.

The Gillespie County Fair & Festival Association has announced the names of 35 top riders set for the 6th Annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) event at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg, Texas, on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Show begins at 7:30 p.m., and gates open at 5:30 p.m. Riders come in from around the world for this sanctioned PBR event.

There has been a lot of misconception from the public concerning the Commissioners Court and the County of Mason the granting of permission for ranchers to conduct prescribed burns on their property. The Court does not grant permission for burns to be conducted. Under the State of Texas Statutes, burns conducted by a prescribed burn manager certified under Section 153.048 and meeting the standards of Natural Resources Code, Section 153.047, the County cannot prevent the burn.

The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, August 25th for it’s regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and 1 visitor in attendance. “Boss Lion” Joel Kuykendall announced that the Mason Lions received a 100% participation award from the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. The Texas Lions Camp provides unique unforgettable camping experiences for special needs children.

I have a question. If everyone’s DNA is different, then why is everyone’s blood pressure and sugar numbers suppose to be a certain number! Cholesterol? What’s with the numbers on that one, too? Weight! Who’s to say what a healthy weight is for any one person. We place a lot on numbers these days.
