No progress has been made this past week in righting the wrongs of the phone company. I took a sabbatical and enjoyed life in the slow lane. Everyone needs time off and with no agenda. Like being in your PJ’s all day. Watching “Chick Flicks” on TV, that is if you can find a good one.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, February 17th, for its regular weekly meeting. There were 32 members and two visitors in attendance. Lion Bruce Lehmberg was responsible for the program and talked about the population loss and growth of Mason and surrounding counties. Bruce's information showed a lot of ups and downs in populations; but, no great big differences over the past 15 to 20years.

It seems as though this last week of February is a real return to winter. The temperatures are way down again and there is a chance of sleet or snow. School is out for the day, and we just learned that the truck load of new trash cans we expected for delivery today will be delayed until the roads clear up.

The Art UMC hosted the Habitat Care-A-Vanners on Tuesday. Joyce Mutschink and the church ladies did a great job. Thanks for all of your help. This week’s Lenten Lunch is at the River of Life Church. Prayer concerns are for John Jordan, Gary Grote, E. Wayne Jordan, and for all persecuted people in the world. Pastor John sang “There’s Room at the Cross for You” for our music special.

ARTHRITIS affects one in 7 people in America. Glucosamine, chondroitins and MSM are the most common natural remedies used to manage pain and to supply building materials for joint repair. While these are very helpful, particularly with osteoarthritis, I would like to mention some other natural remedies for arthritis. DIET is one of the best and cheapest remedies.

My fiancée and my soon-to-be stepdaughter just got over a bout with the flu recently. They had both been at my house while they were sick, but thankfully Brooke and I avoided getting it. I think a lot of it had to do with the mad disinfecting I did when they left, and all the handwashing we did while they were here.

One thing I’ve learned about the folks at the Mason Senior Center is that they like to stay up to date. There’s always a lot of conversation about what’s going on in Mason, in Texas, the U.S. and the World. If you ask me I think the seniors here should be put on all the Government advisory boards.

I am tempted to “wax Churchillian” in describing Jim Hogan. He’s a man who raised eyebrows in Texas with his strong—albeit unconventional—campaign that resulted in a strong runner-up finish in the recent Commissioner of Agriculture election. Old Winston, in a 1939 radio address, said Russia was “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.” If modified, it also fits Hogan--a Johnson County “good old boy” who defied political strategies of campaign experts far and wide in ...

School. The place to get an education. Especially at lunch time. We learn to barter and trade. Your ham-and-cheese for my tuna sandwich. I’ll take your apple if you’ll take my banana. We also learn to buy and sell. Give you a quarter for those cookies. I’ll take 50 cents for this cupcake. Sometimes we even share. Some days we bring our lunch. Made with love by Mom. Everything tucked nicely in lunchboxes. Or made by your grumpy sister. And tossed in a brown paper sack. Some ...
