The Old Yeller Days Celebration to be held Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 33 p.m. on the Mason County Courthouse Lawn to honor the life of the frontier times and its literary heritage of Mason author Fred Gipson. Sponsored by the Mason County M Beven Eckert Memorial Library, the event will include Old Time Games which features amusements enjoyed in times long past.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will offer another of its Sunday Afternoon Concert Series at the church on Sunday afternoon, September 21, at 4:30 p.m. The program features internationally acclaimed Italian cellist, Francesco Mastromatteo. He will be joined by returning artist Michael Schneider, a widely experienced concert pianist who is a native of San Angelo and current faculty member at Concordia University in Austin.

Anna M. Gillespie, a native South Texan, is the Artist of the Month at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial library. She was born and raised in Poteet, Texas, located in Atascosa County. Poteet, a farming and ranching community, is known for its annual Strawberry Festival. She is a proud descendant of pioneer families of this area.

Please join The First United Methodist Church for their Trash to Treasure Sale to be held on Saturday, September 27, in the Social Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Proceeds will go to the completion of the new playground and the church youth. At the end of May, the Mason ISD hosted its annual Academic Excellence Awards Banquet. The students of Mason High School were honored for their hard work during the course of the year in maintaining a high average in each six weeks. The Education Foundation takes pride in their tradition of saluting the students of MHS who work hard all year long and maintain the tradition of excellence in our school.

The second annual Heart of Texas Historians & Storytellers event will take place in Brady on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Heart of Texas Events Center located at 805 San Angelo Highway 87. The program this year will feature World War II Heroes and Veterans. It begins with the Posting of the Colors by a Color Guard and will conclude with the playing of Taps.

7th grade Our junior high season opener was against Comfort and our 7th grade came out ready to play. On both sides of the ball we saw some great things. Our offensive line did a great job of blocking up front for our backs and receivers and our defense didn’t allow a score all game.

The Cowgirls and Punchers competed in the first two meets of the season at the San Saba Invitational on September 4th and the Early Season Bandera Bulldog Meet on September 10th. The Cowgirls placed 1st overall as a team against some very tough competition in both San Saba and Bandera.

In the business of animal rescue we all come across heart breaking stories, and Izzie’s is no exception. We first met Izzie at the pound where she had just been recently dumped. Someone had left her in one of the outside kennels, and just walked away. She was quite thin, had problems eating, and walked into the walls of her kennel.

Though I’m not a gambling person, after listening to weather reports all week predicting a rainy weekend (last weekend as you read this article) I’m going to step out boldly and say how wonderful the rain and cooler weather was. Of course, many would contend that life itself IS a gamble, and they may be right.

The 42 Club will meet at the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library for a game day on Monday, September 22. Play will begin at 2:00 P.M. Please bring your partner and your dominoes if you have a set and join in the fun!
