The Puncher Club has been a major supporter of all Mason sports, both boys and girls, for years.

During Thanksgiving, Mason County youth from churches all over the area showed up at First United Methodist Church to help distribute turkeys and dinner preparation kits for families to make for their holiday meal.

Robbie Simon now leads the scoring for the ShortStop Grocery Big Buck Contest with a score of 50 points. His buck had 5.5" bases, 9 points, 17.5" wide and 12.5" high.

Each year the PTO has their annual poinsettia fund raiser! It once again was a success, thanks to all of you who purchased some of the beautiful plants! The students who sold the most poinsettias were awarded prizes for all their hard work. The 2014 Poinsettia contest winners were: Elementary winner Trevor Loeffler; Jr.

The decorating contest sponsored by ShortStop and NuWay Grocery came to a conclusion on Monday night when a team of judges from out of town met at the home of Charles and Linda Reichenau to begin their duties. After enjoying a dinner so that darkness could fall, Charlie and Linda ferried the judges all over the town to take a look at the many homes that had entered the competition.

Albert and Shirley Keyser were named Outstanding Conservation Rancher for 2014 by the Mason County Soil and Water Conservation District. Mr. and Mrs. Keyser run a ranch in the loyal Valley community. They have always been conservation minded. They practice proper grazing techniques and rotate cattle to allow rest periods for the grass.

The Mason Museum on the Square is celebrating Christmas. Last week the “Mason County News” showed a photograph of antique and vintage Christmas decorative items on loan by Pam Spiller, daughter of Wilburn (“Wibby”) & Faye Shearer. These items will take us all back in time from the Snow Village to the Santa Claus faces.

The Mason Study Club held its Annual Christmas Party on the evening of December 11 at the lovely home of Gene and Nan Larrimore. A walk through the Larrimore home will certainly put you in the Christmas spirit where you will find a Christmas tree in every room! The Social Committee is responsible for organizing the Christmas Party and they did a superb job.

Mary Kyle Ritchey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2014, in Mason, Texas, at the age of 68. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Pearl Underwood and by her sister, Carol Henry. She is survived by her husband, Mike Ritchey DVM, daughters Jennifer Wofford and husband Kurt, Jo Lynn Joyce DVM and husband Wade Everitt, Shannon Dezell and husband Sean and by her brother, John Underwood and wife Gail.
