Operation Orphans, Inc. will be hosting the third deer hunt for underprivileged kids Saturday, December 6. At present, an additional 12 kids wish to participate but Operation Orphans is short ranches and places to hunt. Whether you can host one child or more, Operation Orphans is asking your help to get these kids the opportunity to spend a day in the outdoors. We are grateful to those who came to our aid for the November hunt.

I’ve often wondered why so many people believe that in order to donate to a “foundation” that you have to donate hundreds or thousands of dollars. This is definitely NOT the case. Just think, if 100 Mason folks donated $10 to the Seaquist Foundation we’d have $1,000; 100 donations of $25 and we’d have $2,500!

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the Tri-County Land and Livestock Conference on Dec. 3 at the Heart of Texas Event Center, 804 San Angelo Highway, Brady. The program, to be conducted by the AgriLife Extension offices in Concho, McCulloch, and Menard counties, will start with registration at 8 a.m.

The joys of Christmas! Carolers make their way around the community singing glorious songs about the birth of Jesus. Twinkling lights and glistening ornaments and ribbons hang festively on Christmas trees with beautifully wrapped gifts snuggled underneath. Children run inside for hot cocoa (with marshmallows!) after a day of playing hard in the cold.

We are THANKFUL for our volunteers. Mason Community Thrift Store held a luncheon to honor our wonderful volunteers and staff. They are at the Store daily or weekly repairing and displaying items and creating a welcoming atmosphere. We also want to give special recognition to John Earl for his assistance this year.

The Fredonia Community Association’s rummage and bake sale was a tremendous success in spite of the chilly weather. We had many wonderful cooks provide sweet and tasty homemade desserts. We would like to extend a special thank you to our talented cooks who worked so hard to make our sale special.

The MCHS board of 13 members recognize and appreciate Charles Eckert on his work as president of MCHS for the past 4 years. He also served as Chairman of the Fort Mason Committee and initiated several Fort events, major repairs and had the Jerry Ponder book of Generals reprinted. At our MCHC annual Meeting in August Judy Schoenfeld was installed as President.

Johnny Nicholas will return to the Odeon theater Saturday, December 13 after performing at the acclaimed Mississippi Delta Blues Festival in Caxais du Sol, Brazil. Yes, Johnny can wow a festival crowd of thousands or a small room of devotees like he and his band, Hell Bent, do on a regular basis at Austin’s iconic Saxon Pub. For four decades Johnny’s consummate musicianship and vocal skills have graced live music scenes across the country and abroad.

The Seaquist family, after many decades of ownership and stewardship of their beautiful home, have decided to sell their house. The Seaquist Foundation has been formed, made an offer on the home, and plans on developing a restoration plan for the structure. Mason people are accustomed to pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps.

It has been determined that the Christmas party this year will be on December the 11th at 7 p.m. Again this year, we will hold it with the American Legion. It will be held at the Post on Post Hill Street. Hope to see everyone there to enjoy themselves. It is asked that everyone bring a dish to add to the table. The LCRA Board of Directors at its Nov. 19 meeting in Austin appointed 16 members to the Lower Colorado River Authority Upper Basin Regional Council. The Castell Community Club is planning an Open House, Sunday, December 7th, for their Christmas Gathering. The gathering will be between 1-3 PM at the Castell School House located at 123 Old School House Road, Castell, Texas. The public is invited and refreshments will be furnished. The second event planned is a fund raiser to help with the cost of the insurance for the building.
