River of Life Church is holding its 8th annual Christmas day dinner from 11:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. All are invited, especially those that do not have family or friends to share this meal with on Christmas Day. It is a joyous time of fabulous food and fellowship, and expression of what The Season is all about. This meal is free, a gift from the heart of River of Life Church to you.

Friday, December 19th, is the deadline for making your donation to the annual Mason County E.M.S. fundraiser: “Operation Christmas Greeting”. A full-page “Community Greeting Card”, with an alphabetical listing of all contributors, will be in the Christmas edition on December 24th. The “Greeting’s” goal each year is to provide funds for needed equipment for our local E.M.S.

Nanci Gibbons is displaying her unusual and fascinating collection of kaleidoscopes during December and January at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Nanci’s love of kaleidoscopes began more than forty years ago when a friend gave her a small one at Christmastime. Nanci says that she was delighted with the various colors, designs, and shapes she saw when she peered through the eyepiece, and soon her friends and family knew that they could not go wrong with a similar gift.

The American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 will hold its December meeting at 6:00pm on Thurs., Dec. 11th, at the American Legion Post Hall, 237 Post Hill Rd. The agenda will be to attend the Veterans Christmas Party, hosted this year by VFW Post 8554, at the same location. All Post members are invited to attend along with veterans, military personnel home on leave, family members and supporters of America’s military.

The Second Annual Toys For Tots Concert will be held on Sunday, December 14, at the Heart of Texas Events Center in Brady. “Christmas Celebration With the Blackwoods” will feature both gospel and Christmas music beginning at 3:00 PM. Admission is free. An unwrapped toy to be donated to the Helping Hand’s Toys For Tots program is requested.

The Mason National Honor Society (NHS) chapter, in association with United Blood Services, will be holding its annual Mason High School Blood Drive Tueday, December 16th. Donors may visit the Bloodmobile, located by the high school tennis courts, at any time between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. This year, in addition to a free t-shirt which all donors will receive, those 18 years and older will be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to the Super Bowl.

Mason High School Band had four students compete at the Region 7 Tryouts this last Saturday in Tolar. It was a long day after a great, late football game, but Corinne Perlichek, Marina Ramon, Julie Mae Drazan, and Raegan Palacio made the trip. Corinne ended up making the All Region Concert band and will get to perform in the region band concert in January in Stephenville.

Take a step back in time by coming to the Museum on the Square during the month of December. There are several exhibits of special Christmas items on loan by Mason families. The front two windows each have a Christmas tree with items loaned by Bobbye Frazier and the Bierschwale-Larrimore Family. Last Friday, December 5th, Bruce Petty and his nephew, Wade Petty, shown in the accompanying photograph, were in town for the weekend, heading to the deer lease.
