The Mason Tennis Association will hold our annual mixed doubles tournament at 3:00 PM, Sunday - Nov 2nd at the Mason tennis courts with an annual membership meeting to follow at Amelia Banner’s home. All skill levels and all ages are welcome to play at 3:00 PM. We will sign up people when they arrive - mixed doubles and draw randomly for courts and partners.

On Friday night, November 7th, during the First Friday Art Walk, the Museum on the Square will feature well-known storyteller, John Davis. He will be telling ghost stories from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. around a fire pit. To quote John, “Ghost stories ... we’ve all heard them. Some of us even tell them.

Carmen Griffith is teaching Beginning Spanish at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. The class meets on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 P.M. Materials are provided, and the class is free. Carmen also gives private lessons and offers flexible schedules. For more information, call 325-347-5446.

When the Carper Family comes to the Odeon theater in Mason, they will take old country traditions and music out of the closet, dust them off and rekindle them on stage. Showtime is 7:00 PM Saturday, November 15. The three talented instrumentalists and vocalists play bluegrass, old-time country and swing in a style that recalls the tight acoustic bands dating back pre 1950’s.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is hosting a free special program—Breakfast with Carmen on Thursday mornings at 9:00 A.M. in the library. Participants are invited to bring their breakfast to the Cup and Chaucer café in the library and enjoy informal conversation in Spanish with Carmen Griffith.

The Menard/Kimble/Mason Unit of the TRTA will have its second meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 4, beginning at 11 in Fellowship Hall of Junction’s First Baptist Church located on the corner of 8th and Oaks Streets. The meeting will include a video of TRTA’s Foundation at work, a silent auction to raise a donation from our unit for the TRTA Foundation, and a baked potato bar and dessert for lunch.

Layne was the “Patsy Cline” in both the productions of “Always Patsy Cline” and “Just A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline.” She has performed in front of thousands and covered the entire country with her great ability to bring Patsy back to life.

The annual Membership Meeting of the Friends of the Library will be held at 6:00 p.m. on November 3, 2014. Guest speakers will be Mason’s own Garry Gamel, Editor of the Mason County News and Lauri Gray Eaton, former contributor/photographer for the San Antonio Express News. Both journalists will be discussing the role of the newspaper in our lives and what the future holds for the newspaper in rural and urban communities.
