The Old Yeller Literary Association and the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will host Texas author Ito Romo on March 31 at 6:30 P.M. in the Stribling Room of the Library. Mr. Ito will present “The Border On Fire: A Reading from The Border is Burning.” Mr. Romo was born and raised on the border in Laredo Texas.

The Odeon Theater will be showing the documentary film BUTTERFLY GIRL on Wednesday, April 1, in the theater at 6:30PM. The public is invited to the free film as the Odeon begins it’s Springtime showings of the Odeon’s monthly film series that focuses mainly on independent documentaries. There is no charge to the public.

The Hickory Underground Water Conservation District No. 1’s Board of Directors judged a record-setting 200 posters submitted by 4th and 5th Graders from San Saba, Mason, and McCulloch Counties. The theme of this year’s contest was “Waste No Water.” First prize, a $25 Walmart gift card, went to Daeja Perkins, a 5th grader from Mrs.

It is that time of year again and the Mason HS Band is working this year on renewing everyone’s band calendar order. Some of you have been contacted recently and others might have found a message left on their machine. We are trying to involve the HS band more in getting the calendars renewed so throughout the next couple of weeks we will be calling to see if you would like to renew your order. The calendars are still only $5.00 and every listing is still only $0.50.

March 31st 1995, marks the end of the Somalia campaign. Mason VFW Post 8554 will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. on March 31st to remember this campaign. ALL INTERESTED PARTIES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. The on-going rock fence project is going well and the Crosby Cemetery Board thanks the community and the members for their continued support. Our goal is to always maintain the entire grounds to a respectable manner. Numerous violations of code exist and I would like to remind all owners and friends of family at rest at Crosby to please manage their plots and to please follow the codes.

The Jitterbug Vipers will bring their special kind of swing music to the Odeon theater in Mason, Texas Saturday April 11. The Jitterbug Vipers were recognized as Best Jazz Band by voters of the Austin Music Awards. Each member received top honor for their chosen instrument...Slim Richey Best Guitarist, Francie Meaux Jeaux Best Bass Player, Masumi Jones Best Drummer.

Because of the beautiful rains on Saturday, the annual Steady Steps Golf Tournament was canceled, and has been rescheduled for this Saturday, March 28th. The 18 hole 4-man ABCD scramble tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m. (check in by 12:00 noon), at the Comanche Creek Golf Course. Lunch will be provided prior to play.

The Heart of Texas Country Music Association’s 26th Anniversary Celebration gets kicked off on Friday, March 20, with the Welcome Party and Dance. The entertainment by Billy Mata and Texas Tradition with Darrell McCall, Curtis Potter and Tony Booth will begin at 8:00 PM at the Brady Civic Center in Brady.

The Hilda Community Club will hold its annual spring highway clean-up this Friday, March 20 beginning at 5:00 p.m. Stop by the clubhouse to pick up a vest and trash bag. We clean RR 783 from the clubhouse north to Hwy. 87. We need all the help we can get – our members are getting’ pretty darn old!! Supper will be served around 6:30 so even if you can’t help with the clean-up, show up for supper.

The Mason Tennis Association’s 14th annual Tennis-A-Thon will take place this Sunday, March 22nd, at the Mason Tennis Center. The funds raised will be used to improve and maintain our tennis center. The tennis playing youth of our community are taking part in this event by participating in tennis drills, games and competitions for 1 and 1/2 hours, and by obtaining sponsors who pledge money for each participant.

The MCHS is having a large rummage sale to benefit the Ft. Mason Roof Fund Project on Sat. March 2lst from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 417 Pecan St. All Historical Society Members have been urged to donate to our rummagesale. We would appreciate donations from anyone who would like to contribute to the project.

On April 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15, 2015 the Friends of the Library will hold their Annual Book and Bake Sale. Members of the Friends of the Library can browse and buy from 3:00 to 6:00 on Friday, April 10. On Saturday from 10:00 – 4:00 everyone is invited to come and purchase some gently used books, movies and CDs and as well as some delicious homemade baked goods.
