The Mason Community Foundation reminds the community of the grant application deadline on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. Nonprofit organizations with worthy projects that benefit the citizens of Mason County are encouraged to apply. The necessary forms are available at the Community Thrift Store, at 206 Moody St, during regular business hours and are to be returned there by close of business on the Tuesday after Labor Day.

September the 11th is the date we remember Patriot Day. On this day at 3 p.m., VFW post 8554 Mason will hold a remembrance of this date. It will take place at the post on Post Hill St. All interested parties are invited to attend. The Old Yeller Days celebration to be held Saturday, September 26th, from 9:30-1:30 on the Mason County Courthouse lawn will bring to life the frontier times of Mason County and its literary heritage of Mason author Fred Gipson. The Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 PM, Monday, September 7, at the Hill Country University Center, 2818 East US Hwy 290 in Fredericksburg. Kim Arvidsson, Ph.D., will talk about stellar evolution – the lives of stars from their enshrouded births to their spectacular deaths. Dr. Arvidsson has been an Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Schreiner University in Kerrville since 2013.

Cherokee Home for Children is having its annual benefit auction on Saturday, September 26th, with bidding beginning at 9:00 a.m. Cherokee Home is located 2 miles north of Cherokee Texas on Hwy 16. Donated items for sale include furniture, antiques, collectibles, appliances, automobiles, tools, saddles, and much more. All proceeds of the sale go to the care of the children at Cherokee Home.

River Kids invite you to their performance of the play, Ants’hillvania, on Saturday, August 29th at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at River of Life Church and again Sunday morning, August the 30th at 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served after the Saturday evening performance. Pastor Tim Scheffel is retiring as minister of St. Paul Lutheran on Sunday after serving ten years. A brunch honoring Pastor and Mrs. Scheffel will be held Sunday, August 30, at 9:30 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. The community is invited to stop by and wish the Scheffels God-speed as they start a new phase of their life in San Antonio.
