Our summer strength and conditioning camp will be July 21-24 and July 28-31 from 7-8 p.m. All incoming 7-12th graders girls and boys are highly encouraged to attend. This camp is free. FOOTBALL CAMP: Our summer football camp will be July 28 - 30. The cost of the camp is $15 and registration will be in the high school gym on July 28th beginning at 8:15 am.

Its the dog days of the Texas summer and what a summer it has been! Cool, calm, collected. Musical, artistic! Texas Songwriters in the Round is gearing up for the July thru September round of events. These are special months for TSR. The next 3 months TSR will be raising all the funds to take Texas Songwriters in the Round to MD Anderson Sept 20th, to perform in the “Chemo Sabe Lobby” for the annual AIM@ Melanoma for the Cure Fun Run.

Music, games and entertainment will be combined with two days of live pari-mutuel horse racing for the Night In Old Fredericksburg weekend on Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20, at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg. This coming school year at MHS, a theatre class with focus on One Act Play production, will be offered and, upon completion of requirements, will earn students a Fine Arts credit in Theatre Production.  Admittance to this class is based on a short essay (no more than one page), agreement of contract and performance in auditions on August 11 and 12 from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

In June, Mason’s Scarlett Punchers, those daring “women of a certain age” whose only goal is to lunch with style and panache, met at the home of Joan Williams. Our theme, as evidenced by Co-Queen Lynn Hedges in the accompanying picture, was “life is uncertain, eat dessert first.” Well, I’m here to tell you we followed our own advice!

Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore have been playing together for more than 20 years. Individually, they are excellent songwriters and performers. Together, they are fantastic. They bring their Texas brand of country music to the Odeon Theater in Mason Saturday July 26 at 7:00 PM. Over three decades ago, Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Joe Ely founded The Flatlanders.
