There will be a sold out crowd of 250 bicyclists descending upon Castell April 5, 2014. There will be 50K and a 100K race over county roads in Mason and Llano counties beginning and ending at the Castell General Store. The race starts at 9:00 a.m. with the 50K lasting approximately two to two and a half hours; and, the 100K in about four hours.

With scams on the rise in the Concho Valley, one cannot be too careful. The Area Agency on Aging will host the annual “Don’t Be Fooled” event on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 8:30am – Noon. Participants will learn about identity theft, reporting fraud, direct deposit scams, alerts, and steps to take if you find yourself a victim of this crime.

The Hilda Community Club will meet on Friday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. instead of its regular third Friday meeting since that is Good Friday. This is our annual Covered Dish Supper meeting. Reuben and Doris Geistweidt are hosts and will provide drinks and dessert. Fran Hoerster will be our guest speaker and will give a presentation about the Mason County Hoo Doo War.

Former students of Texas A&M University will assemble in Eden on April 21, 2014 for the annual Texas Aggie Muster to honor all Texas Aggies who have passed away within the last year. 3MC Muster activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 100 Burleson in Eden. The Mason Study Club will be having their Spring fundraiser starting Tuesday, April 1st. This year the Study Club will be offering four items in a silent auction. The items include a beautiful quilt made by Pam Scott, a bluebonnet painting by Sue Kaan, a horseshoe cross on a limestone base by Penny Ruthven, and a wheelbarrow full of "Spring in the Hill Country"

As part of the Heart of Texas Country Music Association’s 25th Anniversary Celebration in Brady March 21st through 29th, KNEL Radio and the Mason County Chamber of Commerce came together to offer some of those attending the festivities an opportunity to see and experience historic Mason – the Gem of the Hill Country.

The Odeon Theater kicked off their 2014 concert season with a sold out performance by country music star Kix Brooks. The concert, sponsored by Don Hewlett Chevrolet, was a fundraising event to help the Odeon Preservation Association (OPA) raise money for renovations at the old historic movie theater. Brooks has a connection with and loves Mason.
