Christmas is a time when many people wax nostalgic for “the good old days.” Since many Scarlet Punchers were actually around during the “good old days,” this is not as much of a challenge for us as it might be for the general population. However, one of the Scarlet Punchers’ missions is to have the maximum amount of fun from any given situation.

WACO, Texas—Future needs of Texas agriculture will be addressed Dec. 6-8 in Corpus Christi as farmers and ranchers from across the state attend the 81st Annual Meeting of the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB). On December 5-6, the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Parrish Hall will be the location of the annual Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country’s annual show and sale. Hours will be from 5-8 p.m. on the 5th and from 10-3 p.m. on the 6th. The Association is comprised of interested artists and collectors from Mason, Kimble, Menard and McCullough counties.

Johnny Nicholas will return to the Odeon theater Saturday, December 13 after performing at the acclaimed Mississippi Delta Blues Festival in Caxais du Sol, Brazil. The Castell Community Club is planning an Open House, Sunday, December 7th, for their Christmas Gathering. The gathering will be between 1-3 PM at the Castell School House located at 123 Old School House Road, Castell, Texas. The public is invited and refreshments will be furnished. The second event planned is a fund raiser to help with the cost of the insurance for the building.

Individuals affected by acute and chronic pain are invited to a free pain management presentation with dinner at Nacho’s Café in Mason on Tuesday, Dec. 2. A complimentary dinner will be provided at 6:00 p.m., and the presentation begins at 6:30. The presentation includes a participant-guided question-and-answer session with Ralph Menard, M.D., a nationally recognized pain management physician with the Hill Country Memorial Medical Group.

In preparation for their summer trip abroad, the Mason High School Spanish Club will be selling casseroles this Saturday in Brady at the Walmart from 8:00 to 12:00. These enchilada casseroles will be a perfect follow-up to Thanksgiving turkey. All proceeds will assist students with their expenses while on the ground.
