Mason Youth Baseball and Softball will be serving a pulled pork sandwich meal (with all the fixings) on Thursday, February 19th, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Where: West-end of the Courthouse. Cost: $8/plate, additional donations welcome. A Texas Independence Luncheon, benefitting their Scholarship Program, will be featured in March by the Heart of Texas Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT). Each year, the local Chapter offers a $1000 scholarship to a McCulloch County student who wishes to continue education beyond high school to attend a college or trade school.

On Friday, March 13th, the Museum on the Square will be hosting several guest speakers. This is the Friday of Spring Break and these speakers will bring Texas History to life for all school age students including the seventh graders currently studying Texas History. One such speaker will be Retired Texas Ranger Joe Davis.

Religious Education students from St. Joseph Catholic Church participated in the 2015 Souper Bowl of Caring. This was the eleventh year R E students collected funds following the weekend Masses on Super Bowl weekend. Parishioners dropped donations in soup pots as they left the church. One thousand, two hundred dollars was collected.

Mason Elementary is having their annual PK/Kinder and Headstart Roundup (pre-registration) on Tuesday, February 17th in the Elementary/Junior High Library from 2:30—6:00 pm. If your child will be attending Pre-Kindergarten, HeadStart, or Kindergarten NEXT school year (August 2015), please come anytime between 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm to the library to register your child.

On the 14th of February, at 7 p.m. at Nacho’s, we will have our Post dinner and remember the sinking of the USS Maine. This is an important event to the VFW. It started the Spanish American War which led to the start up of the VFW. So bring your wives and enjoy a great meal and help remember the Maine. Texas Country Music Hall of Famer Johnny Bush will celebrate his 80th Birthday at the Llano Country Opry on Saturday, February 14, at the Lantex Theater in Llano. The matinee show will begin at 2:30 PM and the evening show will start at 7:30 PM. Admission is $20.00 per person. Johnny Bush began his career as a member of Ray Price’s Cherokee Cowboys.

The Long Mountain cooks are coming out of hibernation Friday night at 6:30 PM February the 13th and will have our monthly covered dish supper after a month’s layoff. You all come and enjoy a round of stories and games. I am at a loss for words so the floor will be open.
