The Castell Community Club will have their monthly meeting June 20, 2015, at 1:00 PM. There will be a very short meeting with collection of dues. The club always welcomes old and new members and dues are $10.00 a person. Guest are welcome to come and enjoy visiting with friends and enjoy the games, also.

Well, Websters says, “an informal session at which folk singers and instrumentalists perform for their own enjoyment.” An old-time music party where anyone young or old can sign up and sing, play an instrument, recite poetry or tell a good old country joke.

June the 14th is Flag Day. Show your colors and fly your flag. Mason VFW post 8554 will have a ceremony on June 15 before our regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Post on Post Hill St. All interested parties are invited to attend. The Mason Garden Club will have their regular meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library, Stribling Room. Guest speaker will be Kristy Powell, Family and Consumer Science Extension Service Agent, Mason and Menard. She will give a program on “Canning the Harvest.” Come and bring a friend to this very timely and informative meeting.

Tim Osburn, who specializes in Medicare, will give a Medicare update and answer questions on Friday, June 12. He will be in the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library at 4:00 P.M. This program is free for the public.

The Long Mountain Community Club will have their monthly pot luck supper the 2nd Friday of June, being June 12, at 6:30 PM. I know of nothing special except I will be BBQing 4 or 5 chickens. Met a couple last week that own property near Long Mt. School and am hoping they will be there.

The 6th annual Melvin Burns Memorial Golf Tournament will begin with a Shoot Out at the Comanche Creek Golf Course on Friday, June 12. Players will be divided into two flights according to handicap at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday morning the 2 person low ball teams will tee off at 8:30 for first round play and again on Sunday at 1:30 for the second round.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library began its summer reading programs on Monday and will host the first of three special performances tomorrow. Joe McDermott will give a family fun show at 1:00 P.M. in the Stribling Room. The show is free. Joe’s recognition as an exceptional songwriter for children has stretched beyond Texas to the international level.

The Mason County Republican Women held their bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 20th in the Stribling Room of the Mason County Public Library. John ‘Jacob’ Bauer (1839-1909) will be honored Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 2pm, at the Bauer Cemetery, on Bauerville Rd, east of Mason, off Hwy 29. Jacob, born in Germany, served as a sergeant with the Minute Company of Mason County in 1861 under Captain H. Biberstein. By April of 1862, he was drafted into the Confederate Army and served till March of 1864.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library welcomed Lenore Newsom and her licensed therapy dogs Big, Limo, and Cash to the summer reading programs this week. Read with a Dog will be held each Monday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. for children who were in grades K-5 last school year. The last day will be July 6.
