All members of Central Texas Electric Co-op are encouraged to make plans to attend their annual membership meeting on Tuesday, August 19, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Fredericksburg High School Auditorium located at 1107 Highway 16S in Fredericksburg, Texas. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. Three Directors will be elected to the Board during the business session.

Once again the Mason Puncher Club is selling tickets for a Custom AR15 Rifle donated by KNS Precision, Inc. of Fredericksburg, Texas. The proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets will go to the Puncher Club General Fund. The Puncher Club uses its funds to purchase needed equipment, uniforms, and now a field house for the Mason ISD athletic programs.

We would like to invite you to Hannah’s Hope for a CURE 5k Walk/Run on October 25, 2014. All donations raised will go to Rettsyndrome.org for Rett Syndrome Research in honor of Hannah Joy Hooks. Hannah Hooks is the daughter of Denay Hooten Hooks and Sam Hooks. She was born on March 30, 2012, and diagnosed with a neurological disorder called Rett Syndome in December of last year. School is fast approaching, however, there are a few more weeks to squeeze in some fun activities. The high school cheerleaders are hosting their annual Mini-Cheer Camp Monday, August 11th through Friday, August 15th. It will be held in the high school gym from 9:00 - 12:00. The camp is for kids ranging from 4 years old through 8th grade.

The Castell Community Club will be hosting on Open House at the Castell School honoring John Harold and Dorothy Schuessler and Don and Dodie Vierus for their many years of dedication and service to the Castell School, Community Club and Castell Community. Two days of live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10, as part of the 2014 summer season. Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, Inc., the Gillespie County Race Meet weekend will also include three livestock shows taking place in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. For the races, the gates open at 11 a.m.

The 2014-2015 Mason County Queen’s Court is having a fundraiser Friday, August 8, 2014, on the west side of the Mason County Courthouse from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For a minimum donation of $7.00, you will get a Pulled Pork Sandwich, Chips, and a Drink. In addition, the Court will also be selling Baked Goods!

The first day of school is Monday, August 25th School students should receive a packet in the mail this week, which includes high school registration information and necessary forms to be completed and returned to school on the day of registration. Lone Star Swing, from Austin, Texas, will bring their fun, hot Texas swing to the Odeon theater in Mason, Texas Saturday August 23. The band plays an energetic blend of western swing, jazz, and traditional country music that will have you tapping your toes and dancing in the aisles. Lone Star Swing includes an all-star lineup of musicians including Rick McRae, Terry Hale, Paul Glasse, Billy Curtis and Gary Hartman.

It is that time of the year again when we order state validation tags for sheep, goats and breeding sheep. Please let the Extension Office know how many tags your family will be needing as soon as possible. The tag orders will be mailed in on August 27th. The cost of each tag will be $11.00, so be sure to get an accurate count, as you will be responsible for paying for all tags that you order.

On Friday, August 15, at 6:30 pm, the Hilda Community Club will host an ice cream social. The guest speaker at the event will be Steve Toone, speaking about the Patriot Warrior Foundation. Steve is an active member of the The Patriot Warrior Foundation which is a non-profit 501 (C) (3) organization which provides morale boosting events for America’s wounded and injured Veterans and their families.
