The Mason Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library Stribling Room. The program will be “Landscape Plans for Heritage Park” presented by Dr. Michael Murphy of Mason. Dr. Murphy is a retired professor who taught landscape architecture and horticulture at Texas A&M University.

The Mason Puncher Alumni football players will face the Brady Bulldogs in Puncher Stadium on Friday June 7th with a 7:30 p.m. start. It will feature two fine teams with most of our great ones coming together again one more time. Cost to register this month is $60 and $75.00 in June.

The Llano Country Opry will be staged on Saturday, May 11, at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano. Allen Frizzell will be hosting a tribute to his brother Lefty Frizzell. The show will begin at 7:30 PM and admission is $15.00 per person. The May meeting will be changed to the 2nd Monday of May. This will be on the 13th at 6:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend. Meeting discussions will center around next year's plans, the Memorial ceremony, and flags being put out on local veterans' graves. Judge Rob Hofmann will address the bi-monthly meeting of the Republican Women of Mason County on Wednesday, May 15th in the Stribling Room of Mason County Library. Annual scholarship winners will also be honored. The luncheon meeting will begin at noon. Please call Mary Carlman at 325-9605 by Saturday May 11th if you plan to attend.

The American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 will be having a meeting on Thursday, May 9th, at 7:00pm, at the American Legion Post Hall, 237 Post Hill St. (behind the Jail). Plans will be made for the placement of cemetary flags, the Memorial Day Salute to be held on Monday, May 27th, plus discussion on the future of the Post.

The Lamplight Designs high school art competition will have a closing reception on Friday at 5 o’clock at Topaz Confections bakery. Deborah Hofmann, co-owner of Lamplight Designs, will be present to give awards to the students. The public is invited to attend.

A Cancer Fundraiser event is being held for Martin Martinez, Mason Class of 1973. Martin was an outstanding quarter-miler, a state medalist, and a wide receiver on the 1972 state quarterfinalist Puncher football team. Martin has battled serious cancer the past year, but thanks to medical miracles, strong faith, and a tremendous heart, Martin is again a Champion.

We meet on the 2nd Monday of every month for fun, food, and fellowship - sometimes at a restaurant, sometimes for a pot luck at a member’s house.

For four days the skies over Willow City will be buzzing with up to 60 rockets sent upward for Rockets 13, on May 2-5, 2013. Rockets 13 is the culminating activity for students in the SystemsGo Aeroscience program at 30 Texas high schools. The STEM curriculum--originally developed at Fredericksburg High School--directs first-year students to design and build a launch vehicle that will carry a one-pound payload one mile high.

The Odeon Theater will be showing another free documentary movie on Wednesday, May 8th at 6 p.m., entitled "Where Did The Horny Toad Go?" This movie examines the curious, prehistoric-like horned lizard and what is behind this once-common reptile’s gradual decline over the last few decades. This is a good one for kids and adults alike.

Thursday, May 2nd is the National Day of Prayer. In Mason, the Ministerial Alliance will be holding a service of prayer on the South side of the courthouse lawn at 12:00 noon. All are invited to attend and pray for our country. Please bring a lawn chair. In 1775, the Continental Congress called for a time of prayer in forming a new nation.

On Saturday, April 20, our one act competition day began early. We arrived at the Blinn College Auditorium that morning for our rehearsal wearing our one act t-shirts and black and gold ribbons (Brackett HS colors). When I got off the bus, the two Leon HS directors were walking towards me.
