Keith Kaan will present the first in a series of three programs on green building on Monday, September 15, in the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. The program is free to the public and will begin at 7:00 P.M.

The Menard County SWCD #215 and the Menard County Agri-Life Service will host a CEU Pesticide Workshop on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Registration will begin at 8:00AM at the Murchison/Whitehead Youth Complex. A catered noon meal will be served. Scott Zesch will be our guest speaker at the September 19th meeting of the Hilda Community Club. His topic will be “The Seaquist House: Past, Present & Future”. The Seaquist House Foundation, Inc. has recently been established and is hoping to inform the community of its plans for the house.

The Mason County Library will again offer free cooking classes starting Tuesday September 23, 2014. The second session, Nonnie’s Kitchen, Recipes from friends and Family, will again be taught by Martha Kothmann, “Chef Nonnie”, from 12 to 1PM in the Stribling room of the Library. Three delicious soups and three delicious salads will be covered beginning with the ultimate soup: Classic French Onion!

River of Life Church will be having their Sunday morning service at the beautiful Honey Creek Ranch on the Llano River, Sunday, September 21st @ 10:30 a.m. Imagine a Sunday morning service overlooking beautiful turquoise water, worship, testimonies, water baptism and the smell of fish frying nearby. The worship service begins @ 10:30 a.m., and the fish fry will follow afterwards.

Well it is that time of year again…..Fall fundraiser! We will have our Fresh Country Meats and desserts for sale from now until October 15th. We are offering meats, including, bacon, hunters variety pack, Black Angus slider patties, three kinds of ham and two kinds of turkey; our dessert offerings range from classic cookie dough to cinnamon rolls and peach cobbler.

It is that time of year again! The Llano County Junior Livestock Show Association will be hosting the 5th Annual Wild Game Dinner on September 13th, 2014, at the John L. Kuykendall Event Center. The newly constructed facility is 25,000 square feet, climate controlled with restrooms and concession stand, located at 2200 Ranch Road 152, Llano, Texas.

On September the 2nd Victory over Japan is remembered. The VFW Post will hold a ceremony on Friday, the 5th of September, to remember this date in our history. Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the Post on Post Hill St. On September the 11th we celebrate Patriot Day.

The Long Mountain Community Club will hold their regular monthly meeting Friday eve, September 12, at 6:30 p.m. I am not sure about the bill of fare so just throw something in the pot and bring along as I am sure that all will turn out well. I have not been told yet, but I think we will bring a pot of beans.

The regular meeting of the Mason Garden Club will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Sonlight Apple Orchard Barn, located 4/10 mile from the Mason County Courthouse on Hwy 29 East. Don Durflinger, local grower and owner along with his wife, Shelia, will be giving members a guided tour of the orchard and will speak on the correct procedure for picking apples.
