The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will offer Microsoft Word 2010 and Excel 2010 classes this summer. Carol Tucker will be the instructor. Class size is limited. Please call 325-347-5446 by June 9th to register. Class dates will be set after registration.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library began its summer reading programs on Monday and will host the first of three special performances tomorrow. Joe McDermott will give a family fun show at 1:00 P.M. in the Stribling Room. The show is free. Joe’s recognition as an exceptional songwriter for children has stretched beyond Texas to the international level.

The Mason County Republican Women held their bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 20th in the Stribling Room of the Mason County Public Library. At this meeting, we honored the generous homeowners that allowed their homes to be on the home tour: Jay & Julie Tedder, Scott Zesch, David & Pat Culver, Judy Cordes, and Jan & Will McCann.

John ‘Jacob’ Bauer (1839-1909) will be honored Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 2pm, at the Bauer Cemetery, on Bauerville Rd, east of Mason, off Hwy 29. Jacob, born in Germany, served as a sergeant with the Minute Company of Mason County in 1861 under Captain H. Biberstein. By April of 1862, he was drafted into the Confederate Army and served till March of 1864.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library welcomed Lenore Newsom and her licensed therapy dogs Big, Limo, and Cash to the summer reading programs this week. Read with a Dog will be held each Monday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. for children who were in grades K-5 last school year. The last day will be July 6.

Spanish class will resume at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library today at 4:30 P.M. in the Stribling Room. Carmen Griffith is the instructor. The class is free, and materials are provided.

If so, the American Legion Post Hall is the place to be on Sat., June 6th, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Proceeds from The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 285’s rummage sale will be used to support its activities in the Mason area, including sending a girl to Bluebonnet Girls State, a week-long girls camp held each year in June.

This Saturday, June 6, the Mason 4H Archery Club will host its first annual Fun Shoot Fundraiser at the Premier Ranch located at 15378 Premier Ranch Road between Mason and Fredericksburg off of Highway 87. Registration will open at 8AM and is open to all ages. Awards will be given out after the last person has completed the course.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Art United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Mason will be holding a combined vacation Bible school on July 27 through 30. The classes will meet on each day from 8:30 a.m. until noon at First United Methodist Church. Children who will be 4-years old as of September 1, 2015, up to those who are entering 6th grade this coming school year are encouraged, and welcome, to attend.

The American Junior Rodeo Association will be coming back to Mason June 5 and 6.   The Mason Rodeo Association is expecting over 200 contestants from all over Texas as well as the surrounding states.  This large number of expected contestants is due to the added money the Association is able to offer thanks to the generous support of the Mason Feed Store.

The Mason Puncher Club is holding its 13th Annual Golf Tournament Saturday, June 6th at the Mason Golf Course. This is the event that had to be rescheduled from May 16th after weather conditions made the tournament unplayable. The tournament will be a 4 person 18 hole scramble with 1 mulligan and bonus string.

Every year the First Grade class hosts a Reader’s Café in February. The Reader’s Café is a restaurant style atmosphere where parents and community members get to come and listen to first grade students read their books. There are menus with students’ names and book selections printed where the attendees can choose a student to read to them.
