Librarian Patti Grote and Assistant Librarian Nancy Scholibo are hosting An Open House the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Cookies and drinks will be served throughout the day on Friday, December 18th. The Library is accepting donations for rescued animals. Please bring an item for cats or dogs, such as food, bedding, treats, leashes, etc.

Mason ShortStop and NuWay Grocery has contacted the News and indicated that they want to continue the tradition of a contest for residents who go to the trouble of decorating their homes for the Christmas holiday. The two stores, owned by Charlie and Linda Reichenau, have offered a $300 prize for first place and $100 for second place in each group.

The Odeon Theater is privileged to present the acclaimed New York soprano, Megan Pachecano, on December 19th. A Texas native, classically-trained Pachecano holds a Master of Music in Classical Voice from Manhattan School of Music after completing her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from The University of Texas at Austin.

The Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 PM, Monday, December 7, at the Hill Country University Center, 2818 East US Hwy 290 in Fredericksburg. For our evening program we will watch a video detailing a professional and amateur astronomer collaboration that has proved the existence of galactic star stream haloes.

Hill Country Memorial announces the schedule for its new support group for stroke survivors, those with mobility issues, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, ALS and other neurological conditions. The “Connect” support group will meet on Dec. 10 from 1:30–2:30 p.m. at the Hill Country Memorial Women’s Pavilion classroom. The Mason County Historical Society will be holding an Old-Fashioned Christmas at the Fort and Mason County Museum Open House on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This time will be in conjunction with the tours that the Seaquist House Foundation will be holding. Fort Mason, located at 204 West Spruce Street was established on July 6, 1851, in present-day Mason County, Texas.

December the 7th, 1941, Japan attacked the Naval fleet at Pearl Harbor. This event brought the United States into World War 2. On the 10th of December at 6 p.m. the veterans of the VFW post 8554 and the veterans of American Legion post 285 will have their Christmas party.

The Mason Community Choir will present "A Noel Celebration" on Sunday, December 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Llano County, will sponsor a CEU Conference on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at St. James Lutheran Church – Schorlemmer Hall in Llano. This program will be for individuals who possess a valid private applicators license, a commercial applicators license, or a non-commercial applicators license, and need continuing education units (CEUs) to help with fulfilling their re-certification requirements.

The Grace Christian School Warriors journeyed to Palacios, Texas the first week of November for the Coastal Plains Junior Convention. This convention is for our younger students up to age twelve. Along with parents and supervisors, five students opted to attend this annual event. This week long convention brings together Christian school students from across Texas for academic and athletic competition.
