Carol Tucker will begin an Excel I 2010 class at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library on July 14. The class will meet for four consecutive Mondays at 6:00 P.M. in the Library. The class is free, and participants will receive a manual. Class size is limited. Please call 325-347-5446 to register.

On Sunday, June 29th at 5:00 PM, the Mason County Ministerial Alliance will hold a Fifth Sunday Sing Service at First United Methodist Church. The service will be held outdoors on the lawn under the big shade trees. As always, there will be praise and worship through music, prayer, and fellowship.

The Hill Country pari-mutuel horse racing season kicks off July 4th at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg with two days of live racing at the Class 3 track on July 4 and 5, 2014. Ten races are scheduled for Friday, July 4, with another 12 races set for Saturday, July 5.

For the first time, visitors to the Gillespie County Fair & Festival Association’s live pari-mutuel horse race meets can purchase gate tickets online at www.gillespiefair.com. The Fredericksburg Class 3 track is offering two days of racing July 4 and 5, with a Scholarship Fest on Saturday, July 5. It will be the first pari-mutuel horse race meet of the Gillespie County summer racing season.

The Spanish to English classes for the summer 2014 will begin on Thursday, June 26, 2014! Sponsored by the Mason Library and the Friends of the Library these classes are free and babysitting is provided. Anyone interested in learning English is invited to join us at 6:00 p.m. at the Library.

Vacation bible school, hosted by St. Paul Lutheran Church, First United Methodist Church, and Art United Methodist Church will be held Monday, July 28- Thursday, July 31st from 8:30 a.m.- noon. This year’s VBS will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church. We welcome children who will be 4 years old as of September 1, 2014 all the up to kids who are going into 6th grade this coming school year.

Members of Central Texas Electric Co-op Board District 3 (Mason/Menard/McCullough, Northern Kimble County), met Tuesday, June 3rd in the Mason Junior High cafeteria. The members were welcomed by the co-op’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert A. Loth III. Mr. Loth opened the meeting with the introduction of members of the co-op’s Board of Directors in attendance.

The Odeon Preservation Association will continue their monthly screening of independent and documentary films at the historic Odeon Theater in Mason beginning June 18. The indie/doc film night, always on Wednesday, will showcase filmmakers from Texas, expose film enthusiast to alternatives to the regularly scheduled feature films, and perhaps, inspire the next generation of filmmakers.
