The Hilda Community Club will meet this coming Friday, May 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Hilda Community Clubhouse on Hwy. 783. This will be a covered dish supper so all attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Because of inclement weather last month, we had to cancel our meeting so the Mason Star Gazers will be here on May 15th. We will have a special program that evening with The Mason Star Gazers coming to Hilda!

As all the final details come together for Saturday's annual Habitat for Humanity Spring Benefit, President Paul Branch is keeping one eye focused on the overcast skies. The weather forecasts for Mason County have been calling for heavy rains for more than a week; but, those forecasts have yet to materialize.

We are in the process of finishing up band calendar orders. If you haven’t been contacted and you want to renew your order please call the band hall at 347-1122 ext 227 and leave a message or you can email bobby.halamicek@masonisd.net. Also, if you have never placed an order but you are interested - the cost is $5 per calendar and $0.50 per listing (birthday, anniversary, etc.) We are requesting that all orders be prepaid this year and all money needs to be turned in by June 1st.

Kingdom Kids is a Mother’s Day out program based at River of Life church. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30 a.m. - 2.30 p.m. There are spaces available for full-time children, as well as accepting drop-ins on the day, from anyone in the community. We are excited to announce that there will be a 10-week summer program open for anyone age 0-8 years old (or children going into the 3rd grade).

The 11th Annual Lamplight Designs Art Competition and Exhibition will open on Friday, May 8 at Topaz Confections Bakery. Mason High School art students will be exhibiting works reflecting a range of medium including painting, drawing, and mixed media. The exhibition will be on display for one week with an opening reception on Friday, May 8 from 5:30-6:30.

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 285 will be having a garage sale fundraiser on Saturday, June 6th, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Any donations of gently used clothing, housewares or other items would be greatly appreciated. Items can be left on the front porch of the American Legion Post Hall, 237 Post Hill St., or pickup can be arranged by calling Gail Coldiron, 347-9016.

Individuals interested in learning about the role colonoscopy screenings play in detecting and preventing colorectal cancer are invited to a free “Scope it Out” presentation and discussion with dinner at the Nacho’s Café on Thursday, May 7. Physicals will be administered on May 27th (Wednesday) in the high school gym at 3:30 p.m. All incoming 7th, 9th, and 11th grade girls and boys must have an updated physical to participate in athletics next year and can get it done at this time. Cost of the physical is $15.

May 8th is the day we celebrate victory over Europe during World War II. VFW Post 8554 Mason will hold a ceremony on the 12th of May to honor this date in our history. Ceremony will begin at 1;15 at the post on Post Hill St. All interested parties are invited to attend.

Carol Tucker will be teaching a Microsoft Word 2010 class at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library in June. The class is held one night each week for four consecutive weeks. The class is free, but class size is limited. Please call 325-347-5446 to register.
