During Round Up, the Mason County Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Mason County Historical Commission as a member with a formal ribbon cutting on the courthouse lawn. Charles Eckert performed the scissor duties for the group, while Nikki Sills and Sabin Neslon (at left) were on hand for the Chamber.

T. J. Schovajsa of Mason recently returned from a nine-month deployment in Kandhar, Afghanistan, with the 101st Airborne Division. As he returned, family and friends were on hand to welcome him home and to help him settle in at his new assignment at Fort Campbell in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Matt and Sherry Schmidt of Mason, Texas are thrilled to announce the arrival of their precious little girl, Miss Elizabeth Rose Schmidt. Elizabeth was born on June 10, 2015 at 7:11 a.m. at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg, Texas. She weighed seven pounds, ten ounces, and was 20 ½ inches long.

The graduating class of 1945 held their 70 year reunion July 11th at Willow Creek Cafe. There was eleven classmates of the origional forty two present. Mason High School Class of 1985 held their thirty year reunion on Saturday afternoon, June 27, at the home of Lee and Bobbie McMillan. The Mason County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the Rippy Law Firm in Mason, in conjunction with their open house. Felix has been practicing law for over 25 years. He is board certified to practice Family Law, but also does criminal, civil, wills, trusts, probate, estate planning, expunctions, business formations, elder and long-term care planning, and he is a certified mediator.

Lucas Martin was selected to attend the 2015 Youth Range Workshop at the Texas Tech University Center-Junction on June 21 – 26, 2015. County selection of participants involved in 4-H and FFA programs was based on outstanding projects, leadership and interest in range and natural resource management. Lucas’ local sponsor was the Mason County Soil and Water Conservation District, a strong supporter of range education and leadership development of local youth.

Henry Perez, owner of Perez Construction, recently joined the Mason County Chamber of Commerce. Though based in Lampasas, Perez Construction has been involved in numerous jobs in the Mason area and Henry enjoys working with Mason County residents. Blake Hemphill, grandson of former Mayor Jamie Hemphill and Mary Hemphill graduated from the Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry on May27th.Texas A&M purchased the Baylor College of Dentistry several years ago. Blake graduated number nine in his class and was on the Cumulative Dean’s Honor List. He was inducted into two societies: The Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society, and the Odonotological Honor Society.

"War Babies," as the class of 65 was known, started the first grade in 1953 with a record 106 students. The class was so large that an additional classroom had to be added. On Saturday afternoon, June 6th, the class held their 50th year reunion at Kenneth and Brenda Kothmann's home.

The Hill Country Sheep and Goat Auxiliary met June 1 at the ranch home of Peggy Matli. Speaker, Attorney Tammy Fisher told some history of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers and of plans of the Centennial of TSGRA to be held at the YO Ranch Hotel, Kerrville, TX July 23 - 25. Scholarship winners announced for this spring are dividing $21,200.
