KERRVILLE— The Cailloux Foundation (the Foundation) in Kerrville, Texas, will award 20 college scholarships to area students this month. The 2015 recipients have been chosen from high schools in Bandera, Barksdale (Nueces Canyon High School), Center Point, Fredericksburg, Harper, Junction, Kerrville (Tivy), Mason, and Medina. Awards are up to $14,000 per recipient annually and are for undergraduate study only.

Cass and Brittany Castillo along with Big Sister Lilah welcomed home the newest addition to the family on April 13, 2015, At 7:01 p.m. His name is Lennox Stone Castillo. He weighed seven pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. He was born at Peterson Memorial in Kerrville. His Grandparents are Delia Martinez and Salvador Castillo, Johnny and Deanna Miser of Mason.

Eleanor Elizabeth Martinez was welcomed into our family on February 9, 2015, at 8:09 p.m. by her enthusiastic big brothers, Maverick and Ryder, and her parents, Steve and Sarah Hofmann Martinez of Ft. Worth, TX. Her proud grandparents are Bruce and Kerry Hofmann and proud aunt is Deborah Hofmann. She weighed eight pounds and was 21 inches long.

As part of their ongoing efforts related to the Baldrige Award, the nation’s highest honor for performance excellence in both public and private organizations, team members from Hill Country Memorial landed in Baltimore last week to attend the 27th Annual Quest for Excellence Conference and to receive the award. Hill Country Memorial is one of four recipients in the nation to receive the 2014 Baldrige Award.

Community leaders from two very different cultures in the Texas Hill Country met for the first time in 1847 in what is now the town of Mason—an encounter that might have ended in a bloodbath but instead formed the basis of a lasting friendship. Air Force Airman 1st Class Colin K. Tyler graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. You may have noticed something new on the Mason Square this week! On Monday April 6th, volunteers installed a large 10x 20 foot vinyl banner with the retro “Mason” postcard design. This is the working design from Mason artist Spider Johnson for our new painted mural that will take the place of the banner on the side of the Hinckley building later this year.

Jeremy Clark of Mason, Texas, has just returned from Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from the Texas Auction Academy on February 15, 2015. While in Dallas, he completed 83 hours of intensive auctioneer training. Classes covered during the nine day course included auctioning real estate, estates, antiques, heavy equipment, purebred and market livestock, automobiles, government sales, farm sales and fundraising events.
